We are the mental health and learning disability NHS Trust for County Durham and Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York. From education and prevention, to crisis and specialist care - our talented and compassionate teams work in partnership with our patients, communities and partners to help the people of our region feel safe, understood, believed in and cared for. We nurture the recovery

journey of anyone in need of our help. In Our Trust, everyone has a say in how they are supported and treated because we listen to every person in our care until they feel understood. Our patients, their families and carers work
together with us towards better mental health. We’re committed to new thinking that improves the wellbeing of our region. We connect with our communities and partners to get mental health care right, in areas that really need it. We won’t rest until everyone in our region has the mental health care they need, to lead their best possible life. This account is not monitored 24/7. If you, or someone you know, is experiencing a mental health crisis, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option. Ahead of going back to school in North Yorkshire, one of our education mental health practitioners, Emily, is sharing practical tips and advice for parents and carers.

Normalise feelings 🎊

“It's normal for children and young people to have lots of feelings. There'll be some that are really nervous, but also lots that are excited and others that aren't bothered at all. All these things are completely fine and normal.”

Back in routine 🌙

“Try and think about the bedtime routine and getting ready in the morning. Give them time to adjust – depending on what routine they’ve had over the summer.”

Manage worries ❤️

“Having a dedicated time will help children manage their worries by focusing on them during a set time each day, instead of letting them distract them all day.”

Positive focus 👍

“Look towards the exciting things so you’re not just focusing on the negatives and the worries. At the end of the first week, plan something nice afterwards that your child is really going to enjoy.”

None of us want to think about developing dementia. But smoking puts you at a much higher risk. 👀

The poisons in to***co smoke damage your blood vessels and kill off brain cells …increasing your chances of a heart attack …stroke … and dementia. 🧠

We can’t change our age. But we can cut our risk of dementia by not smoking.
