One of the benefits of being an Army Reservist is supporting our colleagues in other Bands, including Regular Army Bands. On Friday, LCpl Kolb, alongside Reserve Musicians from three other Army Reserve Bands, joined The Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland for their concert at the Reconnect Theatre in Livingston. The event was in aid of Poppy Scotland, who provide support for current and former members of the Armed Forces and their families

Pictured below are (L-R):Musn Kirk ( The Band of the Mercian Regiment); Musn Eggleton ( The Lowland Band The Royal Regiment of Scotland ); Musn Barrett, ( Lancashire Artillery Band ); Musn Kennedy (Lowland Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland); and LCpl Kolb ( Royal Signals (Northern) Band ).

🎉 The Royal Signals (Northern) Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Captain Ian M Johnson as our new Director of Music, and we'd like to take this opportunity to welcome him to the Band 🎶

Capt Johnson brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously directed both Regular Army Bands and Army Reserve Bands. He joins us from fellow Army Reserve Band, The Band of the Mercian Regiment, where he has been Director of Music since he retired from the Regular Army in 2019. Prior to this, his final posting in the Regular Army was as Director of Music of the Band of the Scots Guards.

We are looking forward to performing under the baton of Capt Johnson at our forthcoming engagements. Our next public performance will be at Darlington's Proms in the Park. This ever-popular annual event will be held in Darlington South Park on 5 July 🥁

Members, former members and friends of the Royal Signals (Northern) Band gathered at Hardwick Hall on Saturday evening for our annual Band Dinner.

The event provided a fantastic opportunity to catch up with friends old and new, celebrate another successful year, and enjoy an evening of good company away from the rehearsal room.

🎶 The dinner marked the formal dine-out of Capt Tom Milford (our former Director of Music), and Sgt Helen Milford. On behalf of the Band, both received presentations from Band Sergeant Major, WO2 Hind, in recognition of their contribution and commitment during their time with the Royal Signals (Northern) Band.

🎉 Congratulations to LCpl Hannah Illingworth, who was presented with the Musician of the Year award by Band PSWO WO2 Smith. Voted for by fellow Band members, the award recognises outstanding musicianship and contribution to the Band throughout the year.

🏆 Congratulations also to Musn Isabella Watson, the inaugural recipient of the Tom Milford Cup. Presented by Capt Milford himself, this new annual award recognises a Band member who has gone above and beyond musically, as selected by the Director of Music.

🙏 Finally, thank you to LCpl Kolb and LCpl Illingworth for organising a superb evening, enjoyed by all.

Good luck to all the bands taking part in today's Whit Friday Marches 🎶

We're particularly cheering on Band PSWO WO2 Smith (tenor horn) and Cpl Thomas (tuba), who are representing British Army Music as they march with Desford Colliery Band in one of the brass band world's most iconic traditions.

Pictured with the trophy from Desford's Championship Section victory at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain last October, WO2 Smith and Cpl Thomas will be hoping for another successful day on the contest field. Eagle-eyed followers may also spot a familiar bass drum in the photo! 👀

Best of luck to all competing bands - we look forward to hearing the results. 🎺

Last week, the Brass Ensemble performed at Newcastle United Armed Forces Supporters Club's end-of-season dinner, which was held at St James' Park.

Live music was requested to enhance the atmosphere and ambience of the event, and the Ensemble were happy to oblige - especially the BSM, who is a massive Toon fan! ⚽

🎺We are currently recruiting for brass, woodwind and percussion - would you like to earn a part-time income from playing music in your spare time? If you're interested, please send us a message or email [email protected] 🎵

On 25 April, The Band of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment held their annual charity concert at St Mary's RC Cathedral, Middlesbrough.

Lance Corporal Kolb (bass clarinet) and Musician Gaidel (trumpet) were invited to take part in the event, in which the audience enjoyed a range of music from marches to film themes and modern wind band repertoire.

It was a fabulous concert, and we're sure plenty of money was raised for the charity. Always a pleasure to perform with and support our colleagues in other Army Reserve Bands!

What a beautiful scene for a Freedom Parade!

A contingent of five Band members travelled down to Ripon yesterday to join our friends at the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers in their Freedom Parade, along with members of Fusiliers Band.

There's nothing quite like putting your ceremonials on and playing a good march with a good band! 🎶 💂🏼‍♀️ 🎺
