🚧 Work begins on the site of the new Shotley Bridge Hospital🚧

We're pleased to share that work has now started to prepare the site for the new Shotley Bridge Hospital.🏣

The site preparation work is expected to take around a year and will get the land ready for construction of the new hospital. The hospital will be built on the former steelworks site in Consett.

This is a significant milestone and another step towards bringing a modern new hospital to our local communities.

The project remains on track, with construction expected to begin in 2027, subject to final approvals.

🍽️ New light lunch option launches across the Trust!

From Monday 7 September 2026, patients across the Trust will have more choice at lunchtime, including:

🥪 Sandwiches
🥗 Salads
🥔 Jacket potatoes with a range of fillings
🍰 Hot & cold desserts

The new option follows positive feedback from patients and aims to provide greater choice and flexibility. 💙

Special dietary requirements will continue to be catered for as normal.

Meeting lots of new people can increase the risk of MenB, a bacterial infection that can cause serious illnesses including meningitis and septicaemia.

💉 You may be eligible for the MenB vaccine if you:
• Completed Year 13 in summer 2026
• Are under 25 and starting university or moving into student accommodation for the first time

The vaccine requires two doses, four weeks apart.

📅 Book your appointments at a local pharmacy and get protected before term starts.
