📣 YOUR SQUADRON NEEDS YOU! 📣
At 405 (Darlington) Squadron, our motto is One Squadron, One Family. Every single week, we watch our cadets gain key life skills, unlock their potential, and build lasting confidence. But behind the scenes, keeping our family moving forward is only possible with our Civilian Committee (CivCom)!
The CivCom is the charity backbone of our squadron—managing funds, organizing local events, and supporting cadet welfare. Without volunteers like you, we simply cannot operate.
🕒 The Commitment: Just a few hours a month, entirely flexible to suit your schedule!
🤝 No Experience Needed: All we need is your energy and enthusiasm!
Whether you are a parent, guardian, or an interested member of the local Darlington community, your voice matters.

A huge well done to our very own Sgt Dobson, who last night received a Wing Commander’s Commendation.

During a recent course, a cadet became unwell. Sgt Dobson immediately stepped in, administering first aid, ensuring their welfare was fully taken care of, and staying with them until medical assistance arrived.

This is a true reflection of the dedication, professionalism and care shown by our staff every day, and the recognition is thoroughly deserved.

We’re also very happy to share that the cadet has since made a full recovery.

Blue skies ahead for FS Holly Davison

A massive well done to Holly for securing a prestigious Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship.

She fought off stiff competition across the region to earn her place.

Next stop: three weeks of flight training and the chance to go solo in a Grob Tutor.

Bravo, Flight Sgt!

The 405 family is behind you all the way.

What a week it’s been for the 405 family, and here are just some of the highlights!

Check out the photos to see what we’ve been up to…

On Sunday, we were proud to take part in the 85th Anniversary Parade in Ripon, alongside over 600 cadets from across the Wing and 150 members of staff.

After a service in a packed Ripon Cathedral, we had the honour of leading the parade to the Market Square, taking the salute from the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, followed by inspections and an address from our Air Commodore.

Wednesday saw a group of cadets visit RAF Coningsby, where they enjoyed a full tour of the station, spoke with personnel, and of course got up close with the aircraft.

On Thursday, a first for the sector, Sgt Dobson organised an afternoon fencing session with a local fencing club. Cadets had a fantastic time trying fencing in full kit – an experience many won’t forget.

We rounded off the week on Saturday, hosting a morning of archery, giving cadets another opportunity to learn new skills and challenge themselves.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteer staff and the enthusiasm of our cadets.

If you’d like to be part of the 405 family, visit the RAF Cadets website to register your interest:

And finally, to top off a brilliant week, our Commanding Officer, Flying Officer Harrison, celebrated a birthday.

Happy Birthday, Sir!
