Rather than go home after the cancelled ward surgery, as I knew the defibrillator at the Brinkburn needed checking, I have come here to make sure that the important piece of equipment is in working order and decided to come in for refreshments.

02/09/2026

I have come to the RA Club for this month’s ward surgery and, due to a misunderstanding, it is closed. Therefore, I have to cancel the surgery and the next one will be 7th October at West Park Academy from 5-6pm

In an increasingly digital world, technology is central to everyday life. That's why Learning & Skills Darlington has teamed up with Teesside-based charity Furbd to provide refurbished digital devices to learners who lack access to technology.

With nine wards in Darlington among the 20% most deprived in England, and adults facing financial challenges at greater risk of missing out on opportunities to gain qualifications, develop new skills and secure better employment, tackling digital exclusion is more important than ever.

Cllr Chris McEwan, deputy leader and cabinet member for economy, said: "Having access to a laptop, tablet or other digital device can make a significant difference to learners, enabling them to access course materials, complete assignments, search for jobs and build the digital skills increasingly required by employers. This new partnership is helping remove obstacles to learning, creating more opportunities for local people and helping to level up the playing field by addressing the longstanding inequalities experienced by people in our communities.”

Enrolments for Learning & Skills courses starting in 2026 are now taking place. For more information visit our website or Tel. 01325 405 601

Please see below for information about improvements to the bus service in Darlington 🚍👇

New and improved bus services are starting later this month to connect communities and help residents make extra Sunday and evening journeys.

We have pooled resources with Tees Valley Combines Authority (TVCA) to boost the services which will especially benefit more rural communities.

The improvements include:

• a regular hourly service to Sadberge and Bishopton during the day Monday to Saturday
• a half hourly service between Mowden and Darlington, including new direct services from the west end of town to the railway station and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form college with routes broadly following the current 16 and 17 routes.
• a regular hourly service to West Park Hospital
• reintroducing evening and Sunday service from Mowden, West Park and the west end of town to the new Esh housing development on Neasham Road
• an hourly service for Glebe Road
• an improved half hourly service for Middelton St George
• a new direct hourly service between Darlington, Heighington, School Aycliffe and Newton Aycliffe
• a direct bus to Teesside Park
• the continuation of evening and Sunday services on the 6/6A/6B, introduced last May.

The new routes are being funded in part by the TVCA which has committed more than £8.9million to secure bus services across the region until at least March 2028. We are funding the new evening and Sunday services with money from developer contributions at sites around West Park and Darlington Arena.

Steve Harker, leader of the council said: “One of our ambitions laid down in the Council Plan is to create thriving and connected communities and reliable and accessible bus services are a key part of that.

“Good bus services play a vital role in helping people get to education, employment, healthcare and other essential destinations and I am delighted we could work with the TVCA to make this happen,”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “We want as many people as possible linked up to jobs, education and the services they need.

“Backing these extra buses creates those links - it shows what we can do when we work together with bus operators and deliver the services people need and want.”
