This morning, Carmarthenshire County Council overwhelmingly backed a motion I was pleased to second, supporting a National Emergency Briefing on the climate and nature crisis.

Climate change is not a distant or abstract threat. This summer, Wales experienced its driest July since records began in 1836. Here in our own community, we have also faced the other extreme, with wetter winters bringing repeated flooding and disruption.

The motion supports giving people clear, accessible information from independent experts about the risks we face and the choices ahead. It also proposes bringing the briefing to the Council Chamber and, where permissions allow, making it available through the council’s website so residents can engage with the evidence themselves.

The motion passed with support from almost the entire council. Only the single Reform councillor voted against it.

We will not all agree on every policy or priority, but facing the evidence honestly should be the starting point for serious public debate.

SURVEY and DROP -IN. The CCC want to know what you value about your town, any concerns and where action should focus.
In 2021, CCC worked with local communities to prepare economic recovery plans for ten rural market towns. The CCC has now asked PER Consulting and Lafan to review progress and refresh each plan with regard to local priorities and challenges. Your answers will shape the local conversations planned for September.

The survey takes 8–10 minutes for each town; you can submit answers about more than one town. Please answer about the town or towns you know well. There are no right or wrong answers. Please do not include names or other identifying details in your written answers.

There are two ways to take part:
1. Drop-in session for Kidwelly
Date: Thursday, 10th of September, 2026. Time: 15:00 – 19:00.
Venue: Princess Gwenllian Centre. Hillfield Villas, Kidwelly, SA17 4UL.
You are welcome to call in at any point during the session. There is no need to book.
2. Complete the online survey
If you are unable to attend the drop-in session, please tell us about the town's strengths, what needs to improve and what you think should be prioritised in the future by completing our online survey.
