Join us as we honour the past, celebrate the legacy and look forward to the future at our **National Windrush Day 2026 community event**.

Y Plant Africanaidd CIC is bringing families, young people and the wider community together in Aberdare for an evening of reflection, connection and celebration — recognising the invaluable contribution of the Windrush Generation and creating space for those stories to be shared with future generations.

📅 **Saturday, 12 September 2026**
🕔 **12:30 PM** — Doors open from 12:00 PM
📍 **Shiloh House, Club Street, Aberaman, Aberdare, CF44 6TN**

The evening will include:

* Windrush stories and reflections
* Opportunities to learn about the journey and legacy of the Windrush Generation
* Family and community activities
* Intergenerational conversations
* Refreshments will be available

Whether Windrush forms part of your own family story or you would simply like to learn more, **everyone is welcome**.

Come with your family. Bring a friend. Come ready to listen, learn, connect and celebrate.

🚶‍♀️🌳 Fitness Walk Adventure in Aberdare! 🌳🚶‍♂️

On Monday, 20th July 2026, our young people enjoyed an exciting Fitness Walk through some of Aberdare’s beautiful outdoor spaces. The journey began in Aberdare, taking us through the forest behind Blaengwawr School, down to Cwmdare Park, and onwards to Aberdare Park.

The walk provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to stay active, enjoy nature, build friendships, and create lasting memories. To round off the day, everyone enjoyed a well-deserved meal at McDonald’s, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic adventure.

The children had an amazing time and were full of excitement and enthusiasm throughout the day. We are delighted to provide opportunities like this that promote health, wellbeing, confidence, and community engagement.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day such a success!

🏠 Bethania Chapel Community Consultation – Your Voice Matters!

Y Plant Affricanaidd is hosting a community consultation to explore the possibility of reopening Bethania Chapel in Mountain Ash as a welcoming local community hub.

The consultation is an opportunity for local residents to share their ideas, views, and hopes for the future of the chapel and help shape how it could be used to benefit the community.

For more than five years, YPA Cymru has supported African asylum-seeking, refugee, newly arrived and NRPF families facing poverty, isolation and serious housing difficulties.
Many of the families we meet are waiting for a Home Office decision and are unable to work. Others have recently received leave to remain and must quickly find accommodation, apply for benefits and begin rebuilding their lives.
Our support includes emergency food and essential items, safeguarding, family advocacy, parenting support, help accessing public services and referrals to specialist housing, welfare and immigration organisations.
Our strength is building trust with families who may feel uncertain about approaching statutory services. We work as a bridge between communities, public services and third-sector organisations, helping families access support earlier and avoid deeper crisis.
