Looks to be a fantastic event at Palacerigg Park Centre! Use the information in the original post to book via Eventbrite 🐜🐛🐞🦗

Only 2 weeks to go to this exciting new event at Palacerigg, organised by Amy Devlin in Collaboration with The Alasdair Gray Archive, University of Glasgow, Scottish Literature Society and Creative Space Cumbernauld as well as ourselves. We are hosting it in the Visitor Centre at Palacerigg Country Park.

In addition to the exhibition of works by the students of New College Lanarkshire, there are a number of activities, including talks on Saturday and Art Workshops on Sunday being run by the other partner organisations and some of these are now bookable via this link.

Other activities are being added to the link as the details are confirmed so please follow the Eventbrite account or check back from time to time.

All activities for this event are free to take part in.

We have also organised some shuttle buses to help people without transport to attend and these will be running from Greenfaulds Station Carpark and from the Car Park at the east end of the Old Town Centre. Final details for these will be confirmed in the week leading up to the event.

This is not for the proposed housing estate, but it still affects the area and Glencryan Wood.

Palacerigg exploratory works

North Lanarkshire Council has advised of exploratory works taking place in and around Palacerigg Country Park from Monday for the proposed new power line and Forest Road substation upgrade. The update advises:

"I write to advise of planned activity within Palacerigg Country Park by Morgan Sindall on behalf of Scottish Power commencing Monday 16th February until Friday 13th March 2026.

"The access is required to undertake exploratory works in connection with the proposed overhead power line from Falkirk to Airdrie which will travel above a part of Palacerigg per the attached plan.

"The contractor will mobilise plant and machinery on-site and will have measures in place to ensure public safety together with public liability insurance. Similarly, Scottish Power has undertaken to reinstate any damage to the satisfaction of NLC. In addition to the foregoing, welfare facilities will be positioned within the parking area shaded blue on the attached plan."

The next local public consultation event for these proposals takes place on Tuesday 24th February from 2pm until 7pm at the New Town Hall.

In case you also didn't know about this development. A few miles away but undoubtedly a similar position to us, except they have the remains of the house and also the medieval castle on the land.

Lenziemill ground investigation works

I have been advised of ground investigation works planned to commence from 23rd February on the site of the proposed new housing development at Lenziemill Road and Palacerigg Road. The attached plan shows the extent of the area planned for the works, covering the early proposed phases of the development.

The investigation works are programmed to last for a number of weeks and there will be ecological professionals on site to monitor the works. The findings will be used to inform the development of the site for up to 1,400 new homes which were granted planning permission in August.

Merry Christmas and a brave New Year to all our supporters. We may not have won the battle against the developers, but there are community actions we can take moving forward. Sorry for the lack of updates on this page, I have been extremely unwell for several months which just happened to coincide with the planning decision.

🚨BILLBOARD MESSAGE DEMANDS MSPS ACT NOW TO SAVE NATURE 🚨

A pair of billboards appeared on Edinburgh’s busy Market Street today with an urgent message for Scotland’s MSPs.

The Natural Environment Bill, to be debated in the Scottish parliament this autumn, is a vital opportunity to ensure that strong nature recovery targets are set and that future Scottish governments are required to meet them. With 1 in 9 species in Scotland at risk of extinction, we can't afford to wait any longer.

It doesn’t have to be “nature vs development”.

That’s the message we sent to UK Government. Thank you to everyone who added their views – and for always standing up for wildlife 💚

People living in northern Glasgow suburb express concern that 1,600 news homes are being built without the community facilties they were promised.

For anyone wanting to record nature observations using the iNaturalist free app, TCV have created a helpful short video showing how to change the settings so that your information can be used by ecologists!
