Abronhill Restorative Justice work

I recently requested the Restorative Justice team arrange for community payback work to be carried out in Abronhill, in the woods between Hawthorn Road and Maple Court. My request included cleaning of handrails on the footbridge, litter picking, cutting back overgrown bushes, and path sweeping.

This work has now been carried out and has improved this well-used local walking route. I have also asked the council to clear the rubbish and fly-tipping out of the burn and to repair the boundary fence, and I hope this work takes place soon. I have requested a number of community payback works in recent years and will continue to do so wherever I can.

Kildrum Parish Church concerns

I recently met with a representative of the Celestial Church of Christ regarding concerns and complaints about a recent large event held at Kildrum Parish Church. Following the closure and sale of the building by the Church of Scotland, the Celestial Church of Christ acquired the site, holding services there in recent months and working to upgrade the listed building.

The church held a large event on 23rd August and I received six complaints from local residents about the disruption caused. These complaints were mainly around the parking congestion caused in Clouden Road, as well as some obstructive and dangerous parking. There was also private event security hired by the church for that day and clashes between them and local residents, with Police called and attending.

The church advised they lettered local residents to advise them about the event, but say they will take concerns on board when planning next year's event. They will also consider options for using parking facilities elsewhere so as not to disturb local residents. They are also aware of the requirement to obtain any necessary permissions from North Lanarkshire Council. It is great to see Kildrum Parish Church occupied again and in active use, with plans underway to provide support to the local community, and I welcome the commitment from the church to consider the needs of local residents going forward.
