Renters’ rights have changed - know when you can request further support

Rent a house? Renters’ rights have changed from May 1, 2026 in line with the Renters Rights Act 2025, introducing significant reforms to the private rented sector including new enforcement duties, particularly on illegal eviction and harassment.

Key changes introduced by the Act are:
• Landlords can no longer evict tenants without a valid statutory reason, increasing security for tenants and reducing the risk of homelessness • All tenancies will become periodic, with new notice requirements for both tenants and landlords
• Rent increases are limited to once per year and must be reasonable; tenants can challenge excessive increases
• Private rented homes must meet new minimum standards, with strict timelines for addressing hazards such as damp and mould
• Landlords cannot refuse tenants based on benefits status or family circumstances
• Tenants can request to keep pets, and landlords must consider requests reasonably
• All landlords must register on a central government database and a new Ombudsman is to be created which will help resolve disputes
• Councils have new powers and responsibilities for enforcement, advice, and support, including for supported and temporary accommodation, civil penalties and rent repayment orders

Cllr Richard Butler is the newly elected Rushcliffe Mayor - Cropwell Bishop wish Cllr. Butler all the best for his new role.

Cllr Richard Butler is the new Mayor of Rushcliffe for the forthcoming 12 months.

In a ceremony in the Council Chamber at Rushcliffe Arena last week, he accepted the position for 2026/27 from incumbent Cllr John Cottee as part of the authority’s Annual Council meeting.

Cllr Butler was first elected as a councillor in 2003 and represents the Cotgrave Ward on Rushcliffe Borough Council.
As the ‘first citizen’ of the Borough, the Mayor will attend many official engagements during his term of office this year.

He has nominated Guide Dogs as his Mayoral Charity for the year. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you.

News about the "11" bus service - it's changing to "12" in June, and will restore the direct route to Central Avenue and also operate on Sundays!

Nottingham City Transport have been reviewing all their routes including the 11, and changes will take effect from Sunday 21st June.

Below are the full details of the new service.

The new 12 service serves a return rout to Central Avenue in West Bridgford and also gives us a Sunday Service.

Green 12
New Green 12 replaces Green 11 between Nottingham, Gamston and Tollerton, Cotgrave, Hollygate Park and Cropwell Bishop.

Green 12 will serve Central Avenue and West Bridgford, reinstating this much-requested direct link.

Buses will operate hourly on Monday to Saturday daytimes, with a Sunday daytime service introduced and the last bus from Nottingham at 20:10 on Mondays to Saturdays.

Some journeys will serve Cropwell Butler and Upper Saxondale, with Sunday buses serving Cropwell Butler and Bingham. The 833 connect service will have time changes to provide a link to Cropwell Butler and Saxondale.

The Bridgford Connect ticket will no longer be available, following the introduction of the direct service.

This service is part-funded by EMCCA.

And below are the new route map and timetables.
