A personal response to the announcement by Crickhowell High School -

Thank you to those who have asked about the future of the library over the past few weeks, and my future as librarian. I’ve tried to be as honest as possible when you’ve asked about rumours.

The school SLT and the governors have been under immense pressures the past few weeks, and they’ve had to make some pretty weighty decisions. The human impact of those decisions hasn’t gone without consideration - I say that as someone who is directly affected by it - and I remain grateful to the school for giving me a chance to be the librarian in the first place (best job ever!)

I was told today that there are many people squirrelling away in the background to save the library - and on the whole, I’m feeling positive. This could be another new start for Crickhowell library!

Today, the sun was shining and we had a brilliant story time with singing and silliness. Over 100 people in through the doors to study, to play and some even came to borrow or return books! We had 3 new members. As I left this afternoon, I’d prepared 5 crates of books to be circulated amongst Powys libraries.

If you thought nobody uses the library - think again. We are worth saving.

Lucia

Anyone who has been a member of the library for a while will all know Mark and the battle he has been facing for the past year or so. I can say for certain that he is very much part of the fabric that is Crickhowell library, and always will be. I learnt a lot from the meticulous notes he’d left before I even knew who he was.
Many of you ask how he is, and I pass those messages on if and when he comes to the library. He always seems surprised that people still ask about him - I have no idea why he should, because he was obviously a good librarian and despite our brief interactions, clearly an excellent human.

That is why we will always support prostate cancer awareness. Please see below the poster of a talk that Mark is involved with. We have leaflets at the library available and welcome anyone who might be looking to be signposted in the right direction for help or advice.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

We have decided that any new members will have to commit to the new 'Crickhowell Library Oath' if they would like to borrow a book from now on*

Thank you to the group of young enthusiastic members who wrote it instead of concentrating on their homework.

If it's good enough for the Bodleian, then it's good enough for Crickhowell.

We appreciate your cooperation on this matter.

*not strictly true, you are still welcome to join.

I have been advised by the school, that, for the sake of mine and our customers’ safety, the library will be closed today due to the weather.
You are able to renew, order or browse the catalogue online, as well as gain access to audio and ebooks.
I will monitor this page today to answer any questions.
Please stay safe!
