Horse Strangles is an infectious disease that in severe cases can lead to death.

Downclose Stables has asked that as part of their biosecurity measures, that footpath users refrain from touching horses and keep dogs on a short lead while walking across their land.
Thank you for your attention.

URGENT-PLEASE READ-

Unfortunately, we were informed last night that a nearby yard is currently dealing with a strangles outbreak. We’re sending them our very best wishes and hope all the horses affected make a full and speedy recovery.

In response, and to protect the health and wellbeing of our horses, we are implementing all necessary precautions.

From 29.04.2026, the yard will be placed under full lockdown. This means:

* No external visitors or clients permitted on site (without prior permission from yard manager)
* All competitions hosted by us will be postponed until further notice
* All arena hires will be cancelled or rescheduled

We greatly appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support during this time. Our priority is to keep our horses, clients, and community safe, and we will work to resume normal activities as soon as it is safe to do so.

We will provide updates via our page as the situation develops.

If you have any concerns or require further information, please contact your local vet for advice. ❤️🐎
