Later on Friday, Crewkerne was delighted to welcome two special guests from our twin towns.

Mayor Francisque Vigouroux of Igny arrived in Crewkerne for the first time with his wife and family. Also arriving was Mayor Jean-Francois Vigier of Bures-sur-Yvette, who travelled by motorbike alongside his Deputy Mayor and two colleagues.

They were warmly welcomed by Mayor Alice Samuel and Consort Sam, together with Mike Best. Following refreshments at Oscars, guests enjoyed a tour of Crewkerne's historic cellars โ€“ fittingly built by French craftsmen centuries ago โ€“ before visiting the commemorative tree planting.

A huge thank you goes to Crewkerne in Bloom for planting and caring for the tree, and to George Singleton for arranging the commemorative plaque. ๐ŸŒณ

These special anniversaries demonstrate the strength of our international friendships and the wonderful way our community comes together to support such memorable occasions. โค๏ธ

Special thanks also to Diane at the Local Information Centre for beautifully decorating the Town Hall window, and to the Town Hall team for proudly flying the French flag in celebration. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ›๏ธ

This year marked a wonderful milestone for Crewkerne Twinning Association, celebrating 50 years of twinning with Igny and 20 years with Bures-sur-Yvette. ๐ŸŽ‰

Crewkerne was delighted to host our French friends for these special anniversary celebrations, highlighting the strong friendships and cultural links that have flourished over the years.

๐ŸšŒ On Thursday 14th May, our visitors arrived by coach and received a warm welcome from Twinning Chair Lorna Scudder, host families and the Mayor of Crewkerne, Alice Samuel, after their long journey.

โœˆ๏ธ The following day, guests enjoyed a visit to the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, where they spent an enjoyable day exploring the exhibits and sharing lunch together.

๐Ÿ“š The visit also strengthened educational links between our communities. Valรฉrie Niddam, a Headteacher from Bures-sur-Yvette, visited St Bartholomew's School with her son, meeting the Mayor and touring the school.

โœ๏ธ Thanks to the successful twinning of the two schools, pupils regularly exchange letters, sharing what they are learning and gaining valuable insights into life in each other's countries.

We would like to remind all visitors that dogs are welcome in the cemetery, however they must be kept on a lead at all times and remain on the designated paths.

This is a working cemetery and a place of respect and remembrance. For this reason, dogs must not be allowed to run freely or to walk over or disturb graves, and they must not foul or urinate on any grave spaces or memorial areas.

Any mess must be picked up immediately and disposed of responsibly.
