For one week this month, you can have double the difference!

We are so excited to be taking part in The Big Give’s Small Charity Week! From 23rd – 30th June, every donation to GDWG will be doubled thanks to match funding — that means that your support will go twice as far for people in detention.

Are you planning to walk with Refugee Tales in July? Would you like the influence of your walking to extend beyond your steps on the ground? Please consider setting up a Just Giving page for GDWG and becoming a Walk Ambassador raising funds for our frontline work. Every £10 raised is a phone credit for a detained person to maintain contact and with their lawyer, their family and friends. Email [email protected] for more information and advice on setting up your page. We’d love to have 10 Ambassadors in the tenth birthday year of Refugee Tales and people in detention urgently need phone credit. Thank you for your help.

Here’s an example of a page that our walker, Andrea, set up. Thank you Andrea, thank you all.

Following the tragic news of the death of a man in Brook House yesterday, we send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and people who knew and loved him.

We thank GDWG staff and volunteers for all the support they will give people held in detention who will be shocked and saddened by the news and for all they do every day to sustain lives.

Brook House is prison architecture and it is a place where no-one should take their last breath. We mourn that a young man's life ended before he could be free.

ONE YEAR ON from the Brook House Public Inquiry Report progress is needed against the recommendations without more delay. We’ll be attending Labour Conference with this message and please ask your local conference attendees to come along to Stand H33 in the main exhibition hall to meet our team including self-advocacy group members.

Our fringe meeting is at 4.30pm on Monday 23 September, with a great line-up. We’re delighted that award-winning actor Toby Jones OBE is reading a Tale in an event with Pious, GDWG Chair Laura Moffatt, and David Herd with new MP for Crawley, Peter Lamb. Room 14, ACC.
