DIA Chief Executive Carly Brookfield will be the special guest at an upcoming ADI Insights webinar looking at the role of Driver Trainers within the wider road safety community.

Hosted by Graham Mylward of DriveTalk, the session will explore why ADIs and PDIs play such an important part in road safety, how the profession fits into the wider landscape, and why the work trainers do goes far beyond preparing learners for a driving test.

Date: Wednesday 23 September 2026
Time: 20:00 to 21:00
Cost: £10

With Carly joining the discussion to bring the DIA perspective, it should be a really worthwhile session for ADIs, PDIs and anyone working in road safety.

New to the DIA Shop - Defender Signal Blocker – Faraday Pouch – 2 Pack

The Defender Signal Blocker is a police-accredited Faraday pouch designed to block RFID and mobile signals, helping to prevent keyless car theft and reduce mobile phone distractions.

Trusted by UK police and made from premium materials, it blocks signals from key fobs and smartphones while they are inside the pouch, reconnecting as soon as the device is removed.

For driving instructors, it can also be a valuable training tool.

It removes the temptation, and the automatic habit, of checking your phone when a notification arrives. This makes it a simple way to demonstrate to learners how they can eliminate the risks associated with mobile phone use while driving.

At the DIA, we have had several instructors contact us after receiving mobile phone penalties that could put their place on the register at risk. In one case, an instructor automatically checked a notification while stationary at traffic lights and was filmed by a passing member of the public.

By placing your phone inside the Defender Signal Blocker before starting the car, notifications and other incoming signals are blocked, helping to remove that temptation altogether.

Your pupil can safely store their phone in the pouch for the duration of their lesson too, allowing you to set a positive example that they can continue to follow once they have passed their test.

It could even make a useful ‘thank you’ gift for learners when they pass.

For new drivers, the consequences of mobile phone use can be particularly serious. Receiving six penalty points within the first two years of passing their test will result in their licence being revoked, meaning they will need to apply for a new provisional licence and pass both the theory and practical driving tests again.
