SUNFLOWER AMONGST THE POPPIES
A dedication ceremony is to be held 11am Saturday 22nd April 2023 at the Cranleigh Centenary Garden in honour of Ukrainian soldiers connected to our community who have died in combat.
The first casualty was Dmytro Viktorovych Dubenchak, whose sister Dariia, husband and son are among the 140 Ukrainians who live in Cranleigh. Dymtro died in action on 29th October 2022. He was 38 years old.
A steel sunflower created by the Cranleigh Lions, will be planted amongst the 415 steel poppies that commemorate those from Cranleigh and the surrounding villages of Ewhurst, Shamley Green, Blackheath, Wonersh and Dunsfold, who also lost their lives in conflict over the last 100 years, fighting for freedom and democracy.
