Northumbria Army Cadet Force

Northumbria Army Cadet Force England’s most northerly Army Cadet County stretching from the Scottish Borders to the river Tyne It is also one of the oldest tracing its history back to 1859.

For action and adventure, fun and friendship, the Army Cadet Force is hard to beat. With 41,000 cadets (aged 12-18) and 9,500 adults in over 1,600 locations in every corner of the United Kingdom, the ACF is one of the country’s largest voluntary youth organisations. Many young people are missing out on the challenges and adventures that could transform their lives but joining the Army Cadets can c

hange that. We welcome boys and girls (aged over 12 and in at least year eight at school) of all abilities and backgrounds. When they join us we encourage them to learn more, do more and try more. We inspire them to aim high and pursue their goals, no matter what they aim to do in life. Some of our activities have a military theme, others have more of a community focus but they all inspire young people to challenge their limits, become more independent, confident and able to step up to any challenge. The Army Cadet Force is one of four cadet organisations sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Defence, the others being the Combined Cadet Force, the Sea Cadet Corps, and the Air Training Corps. Although they are sponsored by the Ministry of Defence there is no obligation on cadets to join the Armed Forces.

Could you be climbing Mount Everest? 🗻

Xtreme Everest is an ambitious new project led by Army Cadets National Ambassador, Jordan Wylie MBE, combining extreme adventure with a powerful youth development mission. The journey will begin at the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, before crossing thousands of miles overland through the Middle East and Asia to Nepal. The project will culminate in an attempt to summit Mount Everest, one of the world’s greatest physical and mental challenges.

A defining feature of Xtreme Everest is its commitment to young people. Ten cadets from across the UK will be selected to join the project for the Everest Base Camp phase, gaining a unique opportunity to experience the Himalayas while developing leadership, resilience and teamwork skills.

👏👏👏 Thank You to Our Volunteers 👏👏👏

During Volunteers’ Week, I’d personally take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who dedicates their time and energy to Northumbria Army Cadet Force.

Our volunteers play an essential role, whether by providing training support, mentoring young people, or lending a hand behind the scenes. Your commitment is the driving force behind our mission, helping to develop valuable skills and inspiring our cadets each day.

You should not underestimate that you make a lasting difference!

No matter if you have only recently joined us or have been serving for many years, your contribution leaves a lasting impact throughout our county.

I am profoundly grateful for your passion and unwavering support - Northumbria ACF simply would not be the same without you.

Thank you,

Col Mike

FAM 26/1 was conducted under the attentive supervision of the Adult Training Team, who were ably supported by a distinguished group of guest instructors and speakers.

My special thanks are extended to my deputy for stepping up in my absence Lt Col Mathews, Majors Emerson and Cassidy, Captain Winters, Lt Doughty, RSM Dudgeon, CSM Timney, WO2 Steele our trusted TSA, and Sgt Davy for their unwavering support and outstanding contributions throughout the course.

Your expertise and commitment have been invaluable to our candidates and the organisation as a whole.

I’m delighted to hear 20 candidates were invited to this FAM, with 19 successfully completing the course.

It was particularly heartening to hear that several former cadets were in attendance, now returning to contribute as adults, alongside their peers, these successful candidates will advance to the SPTA Weekend in July.

Should they continue to excel, I look forward to seeing them at AC26 for BIT Training.

For those who require additional preparation, routine BIT Training will commence in October.

The next FAM is scheduled for October 2026, where we anticipate hosting the remaining 33 candidates listed on Joiner.

Our Adult Training Team remains committed to ensuring a consistent influx of new CFAVs, delivered in a timely and effective manner to support detachments across the county.

I invite those serving CFAVs interested in assisting with future FAMs to get in touch with our training team.

The aim is to establish a pool of support staff, in much the same way that Subject Matter Experts currently assist with BIT Training.

Your involvement is crucial to our continued success and the development of our organisation.

Congratulations to all our new colleagues. We wish you a rewarding and enjoyable journey with the organisation and look forward to seeing you in July.

Your achievements are a testament to your dedication and the effectiveness of our training staff.

Borrowing the words of Lt Davey: It's fantastic to see so many new faces, with a further 33 candidates in the pipeline joining our remarkable county and organisation. It is especially gratifying to welcome so many ex-cadets returning as adults after ageing out—proof indeed that we are doing something right!

From me there a heartfelt thank you to the Adult Training and Onboarding Team for their hard work and resilience.

Your ongoing efforts are the backbone of our success.

Thank you

Col Mike

Our dear and much loved friend WO2 (RQMS) Rob Aldcroft received the highest honour from Blyth Town Council last night as he was granted the Freedom of the Town.

We’ve previously shared Rob’s story, and the impact over his 43years of service to the Army Cadets not only in Blyth, but across the nation. His dedicated through his day job as a caretaker in a number of schools across Blyth also showcased Rob’s determination to make sure children and young people had the best.
