We're looking for volunteers to help support the running of our busy visitor centre, as a Visitor Centre Assistant.

Responsibilities will include:
- Helping staff to prepare food and drinks in the café
- Assisting with keeping the visitor centre clean and tidy (eg mopping and clearing tables, setting up/putting away equipment each day)
- Taking cash/non-cash payments using an electronic till
- Helping with the gift shop (eg restocking/tidying displays, pricing up/answering queries about items, selling NWT membership/special offers, stock checking)
- Engaging with visitors to answer queries and provide information about the partners, whole site (inc. future plans) and events coming up
- Promoting and taking donations

Vehicle mileage and public transport costs will be reimbursed.

No specific skills are required as all training will be provided by Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

As we head into Summer, we’d like to remind visitors that swimming is NOT permitted at any of our sites and to take precautions to prevent fires, helping us protect both people and the natural environment.

During dry conditions, our green spaces and wildlife are more vulnerable, so we kindly ask everyone to take extra care when visiting:
❌ Please don’t enter the water
❌ Do not use BBQs
❌ Do not light bonfires or campfires
🔥 Report any signs of fire by calling 999

These actions help safeguard local habitats, protect wildlife, and keep our spaces safe for everyone to enjoy. The wellbeing of our visitors and the natural environment is always our priority, so please plan ahead and take care during hot weather.

Please note our café has extended opening hours during half term.

Between Monday 25th - Sunday 31st May the café closes at 16:30, and hot food stops at 15:30.

Opening hours will revert back to normal from Monday 1st June.

We are looking to appoint a confident, innovative and enthusiastic person to join our café team as Supervisor, based at The Lady of the North Café at Northumberlandia and if required, may need to cover the Lookout Café at Hauxley Nature Reserve.
