🤝 Working together this Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK Drowning Prevention Week 🤝

At Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, we work closely with our emergency service partners to help prevent incidents before they happen.

Through joint training with organisations like the RNLI, we’re sharing vital, life-saving skills including how to safely use a throwline to help someone in trouble in the water.

By combining our expertise, we can better protect those who live, work and visit our coastline and waterways.

🌊 Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK Drowning Prevention Week 🌊

At Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, we’re supporting Drowning Prevention Week by sharing simple, life-saving advice to help keep our communities safe around water.

✅ Stay together - never go near water alone
✅ Float to live - if you fall in, lean back, relax and control your breathing
✅ Call for help - dial 999
✅ Know your limits - cold water shock can affect anyone, even strong swimmers

🚒🏰 Our crew from Amble Fire Station recently visited Warkworth Castle as part of a Site Specific Risk Inspection.

Firefighters do so much more than respond to fires and road traffic collisions - visits like these help crews prepare for any potential incident by identifying hazards, assessing risks and getting to know key locations in our communities.

👑 A royal recognition for one of our own!

Congratulations to Community Safety Support Officer William Court, who proudly represented Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service at The King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

William was nominated in recognition of his commitment to youth engagement and partnership work across Northumberland and was among just 20 guests selected to meet His Majesty The King.

A fantastic achievement and a well-deserved honour. 🚒👏

We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of PC Jess Turnbull. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

A police officer has tragically died in the line of duty after a collision in Northumberland.

PC Jess Turnbull was responding to a collision which occurred on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington at about 11.10pm on Monday.

While at the scene, she was outside of a marked police vehicle when she was struck by a black Mercedes CLC which was unconnected to the original incident.

Jess was taken to hospital where yesterday, surrounded by her loved ones, she sadly died.

Jess, who was 19, joined the Force in September last year and worked on the response policing team in Northumberland.

Our thoughts very much remain with her family and those impacted by this devastating loss.

🚒 Inspiring the next generation at Berwick Fire Station 🚒

Berwick Fire Station recently welcomed 40 Year 10 students over two days, giving them a hands-on insight into the role of a firefighter.

The students took part in a range of practical activities, including hose running, breathing apparatus search and rescue and road traffic collision cutting techniques. They also explored important topics such as water safety and careers within the fire and rescue service.

The success of the event was made possible through the dedication of both Red Watch and the retained firefighters at Berwick Fire Station. Their contribution played a key role in delivering a safe, engaging and informative experience for all involved.

Berwick Fire Station is also home to a Fire Cadets unit, which provides young people with an opportunity to develop skills, confidence and an understanding of the fire service. The Cadet programme is always keen to welcome new members who are interested in learning more and getting involved.

🚒 Our Fire Cadets recently took part in a joint drill night with the Hexham and West Hartford branches, developing their practical firefighting skills through open water pumping exercises and familiarisation with ground monitors.

The evening concluded with a friendly hose drill competition, giving cadets the opportunity to put their teamwork, communication and operational skills to the test.
