๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ Itโ€™s Child Safety Week, and weโ€™re shining a light on our little lifesavers in the makingโ€ฆ say hello to Nico!

At just five years old, Nico is helping us share important fire safety messages with children across our communities. Learning simple actions like โ€œStop, Drop and Rollโ€ and taking part in family fire safety routines can make a big difference.

At Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, we know that building safe habits early helps protect families for life. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š Volunteersโ€™ Week in action! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

The NFRS Kingโ€™s Trust Team students had a fantastic day at Alnwick Gardens.

From weeding and creating flowerbeds, to helping prepare lunch for fellow volunteers, our young people rolled up their sleeves and made a real difference.

A huge thank you to the team at Alnwick Gardens for having us and supporting such a rewarding experience!

Itโ€™s Child Safety Week ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿง’๐Ÿš’

This week, and all year round, we are encouraging families to take a few simple steps to help keep children safe at home:

โœ… Test your smoke alarms regularly
โœ… Keep matches and lighters out of childrenโ€™s reach
โœ… Create and practise a home escape plan
โœ… Never leave cooking unattended
โœ… Teach children how and when to call 999 in an emergency

Small actions can make a big difference in keeping our young people safe.

Even on a warm day, open water can be dangerously cold ๐Ÿฅถ

Cold water shock can affect your breathing and make it difficult to swim and lead to drowning.

It may be tempting to cool off in open water such as rivers, lakes and reservoirs but cold water can kill.

Think before you or your friends enter the water โ€“ cold water shock can affect the strongest swimmers.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temperatures are soaring across Northumberland, bringing an increased risk of wildfires.

Take a peek behind the scenes as our Wildfire Lead, Rob Stacey, conducts a multi-agency wildfire exercise in the Simonside Hills. Working alongside our partner agencies, these exercises help us prepare, respond and protect our communities, countryside and wildlife when wildfire incidents occur.

As the weather heats up, remember:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Never discard ci******es on the ground
๐Ÿ”ฅ Avoid BBQs in the countryside
๐Ÿ”ฅ Take litter home, especially glass bottles
๐Ÿ”ฅ Report fires immediately by calling 999

We're very lucky in Northumberland that Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service are some of the leading experts in tackling wildfires, but that doesn't mean we don't all need to do our bit to protect our beautiful county ๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

Do your bit by๐Ÿ‘‡
๐Ÿฅช Packing a picnic not a BBQ
โŒ Donโ€™t set camp fires - bring another layer if you think you'll get cold
๐Ÿšฎ Taking home all litter - even a piece of glass can start a blaze
