We're reminding everyone to stay safe and plan ahead. Wherever possible, attend an organised public display for a safer and more enjoyable celebration.

If you're planning your own display:
🔥 Buy fireworks from registered sellers
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Supervise children at all times
🐶 Keep pets safe indoors
🔥 Wear gloves when handling sparklers
🚫 Never return to a lit firework

✅ Use battery-powered LED lights instead of candles
✅ Keep pumpkins away from curtains, decorations and other flammable items
✅ Never leave lit decorations unattended
✅ Make sure children are supervised around Halloween displays

🚒 Could your retained firefighting service count towards your pension?

The Matthews Second Option Exercise may give eligible former or current retained firefighters the opportunity to include previously unrecognised service in their pension.

If you were a member of the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme and worked as a retained firefighter between 7 April 2000 and 5 April 2006, you could be eligible.

📅 The deadline to submit your election is 1 April 2027.

🚒 Training where it matters most.

Crews from Rothbury and Alnwick recently visited Cragside Hall to take part in a training exercise focused on access and familiarisation. From identifying alternative entry points to locating private fire hydrants and navigating the historic hall, the exercise helped crews prepare for the unique challenges the site could present in an emergency.

Preparation is key to protecting Northumberland's people, places and heritage. 🏛️🔥

Hot ash, BBQ coals and even cigarette ends can stay hot for hours after they appear extinguished.

Before disposing of ash or smoking materials:
✅ Let them cool completely
✅ Store ash in a metal container
