Craignure Coastguard Rescue Team

Call Out No.32/26 Team paged at 17.00 on Thursday along with Tobermory CRT by Stornoway MRCC to investigate a kayak that had been washed up on the east side of Loch na Keal. Kayak located and spoke to first informant.
A shore side search commenced along the south side of the loch.
Details came in from one of the search teams that the owners had been located and were on their way to confirm.
The kayak had been missing from a local estate for a few days and with the westerly wind direction had been blow up to the head of the loch.
On confirmation the teams were stood down and returned to base.

Also tasked were the Ross of Mull team and Tobermory Lifeboat but both were stood down before arriving on scene

Call Out No.31/26 Team tasked at 03.20 on Wednesday by Stornoway MRCC to set up the landing area at Glenforsa for Helimed 5.
The area was checked for FOD and maintained.
The patient was able to walk to the Helo for their onward journey to a hospital on the mainland.

The team were stood down and returned to base at 05.00

We wish the patient a full and speedy recovery.

Call Out No. 30/26 Team tasked at 14.30 on Tuesday by Stronoway MRCC to set up the HLS at Glenforsa airstrip for the incoming Helimed 5. The area was checked and cleared of FOD and safety advice given to several persons.
The team transferred a single casualty from the ambulance to Helimed 5 for their transfer to a hospital on the mainland.
This tasking was in connection with an earlier tasking for Tobermory CRT to an injured person on a yacht in Tobermory Bay.

The team were stood down and returned to base at 16.31.

We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.

Call Out 29/26 Team tasked last Friday at 19.00 by Stornoway MRCC to a possible discarded flare on the shore at Garmony Point. Team assembled at RV and with the aid of W3W the item was found quickly. After identification by one of the team information was given passed to the MRCC.
The Orange smoke flare was then packaged, paperwork filled in and the item was ready for transport.
The team then did a quick sweep of the area for any further items before we were stood down and returned to base at 21.45

Call Out No. 28/26
As we were making our way back to our vehicle another tasking came in to assist the ambulance service with a medivac from Glenforsa airstrip.
The team made their way to Glenforsa before doing a FOD check and deploying the landing lights.

We assisted with the transfer of a single patient from the ambulance to the helo for their onward journey to a hospital on the mainland.

Team was eventually stood and returned to base at 02.30

Call Out No.27/26 Team paged on Tuesday night at 23.10 by Stornoway MRCC to a Mayday call from a yacht which was dragging its anchor on Loch Spelve.
Team were tasked to maintain a visual contact and if required to assist with the evacuation on the 4 persons on board.
Thankfully they managed to secure the anchor until Oban lifeboat arrived on scene to evacuate them back to Oban.

Once the lifeboat had departed the team were stood down.

Call Out No.26/26 Information was sent from a concerned member of the local community at Lochbuie regarding several items of camping equipment, rucksack and other personnel which had been left unattended for a couple of days.
Initially the team were tasked at 11.07 on Friday by Stornoway MRCC to investigate the items but soon after the other 2 teams from the Ross of Mull and Tobermory were also tasked along with Oban lifeboat and Stornoway helicopter to begin a search for a possible missing person.
The police were also in attendance. Together with the Duty Coastal Officer a search plan was formulated and over the next 11 hrs an extensive search was carried over a large area between Lochbuie and Carsaig.
With nothing found the teams were stood down for the night at 22.35 with the possibility of further searches on the Saturday morning.
Thankfully overnight with Police making further enquiries the person was finally located on the Isle of Iona safe and well.

An excellent outcome.

Special thanks go to the Old Post Office tea room at Lochbuie which had closed for the day at 15.30 for opening up again at 18.00 to provide food and drinks(which was excellent and much appreciated) for the 3 teams. Thank You.
