Join Alzheimer Cafe Isle of Wight tomorrow afternoon for their Cowes Alzheimer Café where they have a presentation from Nigel Hartley about: My Life, My Plan, My Death.

Some things feel scary to talk about, but once that conversation begins, it can give us back a sense of control and even some peace. ❤

🚨 ASIAN HORNETS — ISLANDERS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨
Following the recent report of a yellow-legged (Asian) hornet on the Isle of Wight, now is the time for all of us to be keeping our eyes open.
Asian hornets are an invasive species and pose a significant threat to our honeybees, wild pollinators and wider biodiversity. Early detection is incredibly important, finding an individual hornet can help the specialist teams locate and destroy a nest before it becomes established.

SO, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Yellow-legged hornets are generally:
🟡 Yellow tips to their legs — one of their most distinctive features
🟤 Dark brown/black with a velvety dark thorax
🟠 A mostly dark abdomen with a yellow/orange band towards the end
🟠 An orange face when viewed from the front
📏 Workers can be up to around 25mm, with queens up to around 30mm

‼️IF YOU THINK YOU’VE SEEN ONE, REPORT IT!
You don’t have to be certain that it’s an Asian hornet. They can be easily mistaken for other insects like the European hornet or woodwasps
If you can safely do so, take a photograph and report the sighting.

The easiest way is using the Asian Hornet Watch app:
Iphone: https://apps.apple.com/.../asian-hornet-watch/id1161238813

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details...

You can also report a suspected sighting:
🌐 Online: www.nonnativespecies.org/alerts/asianhornet
📧 Email: [email protected]
Or report to the local Isle of Wight team
📧 email: [email protected]

Please include a photograph and the location of the sighting wherever possible.

It’s a great place to keep up with local information, learn what to look for and help spread awareness throughout our Island community.
The volunteers are working to protect the Isle of Wight from Asian hornets are doing an incredible job, but they need your eyes too
That’s where we can all help.
You don’t need to be a beekeeper.
You don’t need to be an expert.
You don’t even need to be certain you’ve seen one.

Just keep your eyes open. 👀
Take a photo if it’s safe. 📸
REPORT it. 📱
Let the experts do the rest. 👍
One sighting could make a real difference to protecting our Island’s bees, pollinators and biodiversity. 🌿💚

PLEASE SHARE — LET’S GET THE WHOLE ISLAND LOOKING OUT FOR THEM

Have you seen Red Funnel Isle of Wight Ferry new TV ad?📺

We were delighted to enlist the help of BAFTA and Emmy nominated actor and writer Diane Morgan to celebrate (in her own deadpan way), just what makes the Isle of Wight... different!

From fossil hunting and red squirrels to blue w**e and garlic ice cream, Diane takes viewers on a whistle stop tour of the Island's specialities that set us apart from the rest.🐿️

Turning traditional tourism advertising on its head, we hope you enjoy this entertaining homage to the Isle of Wight's individuality, unique landscape and local quirks that have attracted visitors for generations.

You can watch the TV ad and find out more about Diane's Wonderfully Different discoveries here:
