Social Media Guidelines for Cowes Enterprise College:
Cowes Enterprise College has both a Twitter and Facebook account which the public is able to follow for updates and information. Content of social media updates:
The primary use for these accounts will be to publish news that is of general interest and can therefore be released into the public domain. Examples of potential updates include sport

s club fixtures and results, helpful tips for revision, images of students enjoying their school trip, notification of after school clubs and extra classes etc. Social media will be very useful to provide updates quickly to parents/carers in the event that a message needs to reach them before the weekly newsletter (additional to methods already being used by the school such as text messaging, phone calls etc.) This policy does not supersede any existing IT or safe internet usage guidelines already established by the school. It is not intended to be a guide for students or staff, but offers guidelines on how general members of the public will be allowed to engage with the school’s social media tools. Acceptable use by followers:
The college’s social media accounts will be monitored closely and any postings found to contravene the below guidelines will be removed -
Do not use personal information, including contact details, or anything that could identify a member of staff, students or their parents/carers. Do not swear (although this will largely be filtered out by Facebook settings). Do no post messages that are unlawful, libellous, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented or racially offensive. Do not advertise products or services. Do not impersonate someone else. Always be civil, tasteful and relevant. Photos:
Restrictions will be placed on the posting of photos. Only photos of students authorised for publication shall be used on social media accounts. Defamation:
Any statement deemed to be defamatory will be removed immediately. A defamatory statement is one that lowers the reputation of a person or organisation in the eyes of a reasonable person. Questions and complaints:
Social media accounts are not intended to act as a question and answer forum, and these will be referred at all times to the school’s switchboard or email etc. If the answer to a question is easily sourced from the school’s website, however, social media will act as a signpost providing links to that information.

On Tuesday 9th June the U13 boys cricket team hosted Carisbrooke at Northwood Cricket Club.

Carisbrooke opted to field first and the 16 over innings commenced. Fielding some strong and consistent bowlers, Miles saw 3 partnerships during his time at the crease before retiring with 33 runs. Rufus joined Miles adding 29 runs, although retirement was deserved and along with some extras, Max and Joe added to the team total of 111-2. A good target was set for their opponents, with a strange pattern of the first ball of each of several overs being hit for 4 before our bowlers found their range and wickets started to fall.

A key wicket was taken by Norman (on his debut) and then more followed from Miles, Theodore and Rufus. Into the final over and with the score tied with 2 balls remaining, 1 leg bye saw the target reached in what ended up being a very close game.

All players from both teams showed great sportsmanship playing some very good cricket. Well played Max D, Miles B, Arthurs S, Theodore M, Rufus K, Jason K, Henry D, Norman R, Joe A, Theo W and Duarte B.

Our The Duke of Edinburgh's Award silver group 3 have successfully completed their expedition training with a fantastic team effort on a 16k walk on Saturday in very challenging weather. 🌧️

With lots of resilience, determination and humour, Jude, Morgan, Oscar and Brogyn powered through their walk and were accurate with both timing and navigation.

They will join the other three silver groups this Thursday onwards for their assessed expedition in Ashdown Forest. 🤩🌲

We are incredibly proud to announce that our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students have completed an amazing 2,990 hours of volunteering this year, generating an estimated £22,573 of social value for our local community! 🤩🥰

From supporting charities and community groups to creating gardens, helping at sports clubs, litter picking and beach cleaning, our students have made a real difference across the Isle of Wight.

With over 100 students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and 17 dedicated staff volunteers supporting the programme, this achievement reflects the kindness, commitment and community spirit that makes Cowes Enterprise College so special.

On Wednesday 3rd June the P.E department hosted our first Inter-Crew Pickleball Tournament.

Pairs could be mixed within year groups but must be within the same crew.

Over 30 students turned up where we did quick 5-minute round robin. All students played a variety of year groups, some new to the sport, some who have come to club every week and some who have recently played outside of school. Beginners learnt the rules quickly and some excellent game play was had.

All students who took part received 2 extra points for their crew. The top 4 positions receive points overall and they will get added onto crew points so far. Well done to all who took part.
