As the intense August heat gives way to the first signs of autumn, we’re looking back at an eventful summer at Warwickshire's country parks with our latest wildlife and conservation update! 🌻

🌿 There’s something special about a Sunday morning at Park Yoga.

The mats slowly appearing across the grass.

Familiar faces arriving each week.

New faces giving it a try for the very first time.

A whole community taking an hour away from everyday life to move, breathe and simply be outside together.

As summer begins to draw to a close, these mornings somehow feel even more precious. 💚

The school holidays may be coming to an end, but as late summer ambles into early autumn, we have lots more activities at our parks where people of all ages can embrace the season and connect with nature!

We’ve had some much-needed rain this week, and after a long, dry summer, it’s a lovely reminder of just how closely our wellbeing is connected to the natural world. 🌧️🌿

What better time to slow down, get outside and reconnect with the earth?

Join us for free Park Yoga this Sunday and enjoy some gentle movement, fresh air and a little time to yourself amongst nature. 🧘‍♀️🌳

Whether you’re a regular yogi or have never tried it before, everyone is welcome. Just turn up for 9.30 start time, bring a yoga mat (or towel), sun cream and water, and look out for the Park Yoga flag.

Have you enjoyed visiting us this summer? For some, the best is still to come: and you can see it all for less with one of our annual parking permits. 🍂

It’s been fantastic to see Warwickshire’s country parks and greenways brimming with activity over the summer, but we know that many of you love other parts of the year the most.

Soon, everything will turn red and gold; our paths and trails will get quieter, and you can look out for birds and mammals squirrelling away supplies for the winter. 🍁

Then there’s the magic of the cold: fractals and frozen lakes, frosted leaves and the gentle stillness that settles across our parks. ❄️

Before you know it, the early signs of spring will morph into full-blown blossoms, and our parks will once again be full of life. 🌸

Today marks our fantastic university placement student Esther's last day with us! We are very sorry to see her go, but w...

Today marks our fantastic university placement student Esther's last day with us! We are very sorry to see her go, but would like to say a huge thank you to her for all the help she has given over the past 11 months.

Esther has really got involved with every aspect of the job, from emptying bins and helping our visitors, to managing our habitats over winter and recording wildlife in them in summer. More recently, in her paid student role over the last three months, she has been able to build on her passion for science communication by helping the education team deliver events for children, and has even found a love for fishing through helping with our Young Anglers sessions!

Being an Ecology and Conservation student, Esther has also helped us better understand our wildlife. Her passion for caddisflies, lichens and fungi has been hugely helpful, and she is now a very proficient moth recorder too! She has also supported our partnership working with ecological consultancy RSK Biocensus, taking part in both newt surveys and entomological training.

Thank you for everything, Esther, and we wish you all the very best for your final year of studies! 🦋🌿

A couple more species spots this summer at Ryton Pools…🦋🐝

First, a new site record: the Light Crimson Underwing! This was spotted by an ecologist who joined us for one of our moth mornings while exploring the park later on. It’s only the third record of this species in the whole of Warwickshire!

We also had a second site record of Andrena denticulata (Grey banded mining bee), which was new to site last year.

Looking forward to experiencing the eclipse later? 🌓

If you're planning to take in this solar spectacle from Ryton Pools Country Park, please note:

🛻 The park will close at 8pm as usual, although you will be able to exit via the alligator teeth after this as long as you park in the lower car park. The toilets close at 7pm.

🔥 BBQs and fires aren't permitted - they pose a huge risk at present, with incidents across the county destroying wildlife and putting lives at risk.

🗑 Please use the bins provided or take rubbish home with you.

And remember - looking directly at the sun can severely damage your eyes - even during an eclipse, so please take appropriate precautions!

Thank you for helping us care for this special place while safely enjoying today's spectacular event.

Peepo! 👀🦫

You never know what you'll find beneath these metal sheets, which we put down to create refugia from the sun for reptiles, small mammals and insects. This time, we spotted this lovely little bank vole!
