We are delighted to be working with Coventry Local Authority in relaunching CHIP 2. This is a fantastic opportunity for heads within the city to see the working life of different schools and reflect with other heads.

We're excited to be able to share our latest project.

We've been working on a redesign of Key Stage 3 Reading with leaders and teachers at Cardinal Wiseman. We've taken the VIPERS reading domains from KS2 and the syllabus guides from AQA Lit and Lang (and added in some wider subject content from our curriculum experts) to create our own reading framework.

We're initially trialling this in Year 7 with an implementation plan (based on the EEF model) that will see this fully operational by Easter. I had the pleasure of sharing this with SLT today and seeing them buy in to the vision of how this can drive Reading as an element of English and as a key fundamental to teaching and learning across all curriculum areas has only added to the excitement. The idea of an explicit, skills-focused curriculum that offer consistency and positive synergy all curriculum areas has such potential.

The work is rooted in the EEF Literacy Guides (for all three key stages) and wider research. I'd also like to thank Barr's Hill for welcoming me to their amazing Bridge provision recently which has shaped some of this thinking to.

If you'd like to know more or have any tips, bits of advice or anything please do reach out.

Last week we attended the BDES Primary Curriculum Working Party Group. Lots of powerful discussions and sharing of best practice on all things related to Oracy across the diocese.

The 'We Need to Talk' paper formed a key part of those discussions and instantly brought a shared understanding amongst the schools represented. We've summarised the key notes in this infograph and the full report can be found here (https://oracyeducationcommission.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/We-need-to-talk-2024.pdf).

Brilliant morning delivering the NPQLPM for the Coventry and Central Warwickshire Teaching School Hub. This was our final PLG together. A fantastic cohort who were reflective, shared lots of brilliant practice and engaged in deep discussions.

Just a little something that has come up with a few teachers in our Trust that has been really well received. If running a laptop/PC and an interactive whiteboard or projection screen, the 'screen extend' function allows for multi-tasking and dual functionality. Two small snippets: an EYFS teacher loved the idea of having resources for the children to see and provision mapping for the adults to check back to; a Year 5 teacher loved the idea of having the register on the laptop whilst still showing morning work for the class.
