County Durham Youth Council

County Durham Youth Council DYC are an A-Political group of Young People aged 11-19 that provide a voice for their peers across County Durham. Share yours, but share it in the right way.

This page has been set up to keep you in the loop with what's going on in the Youth Council and across County Durham. You told us you want social media to be a more positive place for Young People. We agree, so let's try to keep this a positive space, it's ok if you don't agree with something, you're entitled to an opinion, but it might not be the same as someone else's. You also told us that othe

r social media pages from Durham County Council didn't meet your needs, or cater for you, we shared that with the decision makers at DCC, and they've listened to you, they've given us this page for you. So, tell us what you'd like to see on here! There are a few things we're asking you to do, if we all do these LITTLE things, we can make a BIG difference;
Keep it clean and PG friendly, we've got younger young people accessing this page, let's keep the language appropriate. Be respectful, you respect us, we'll respect you. It's alright to disagree, it's alright to say you disagree, but go about it the right way. Check in with us, the more you view, the more you follow and the more you share, the further this message will go! We want to create an army, an unstoppable force of proactive, respected, amazing Young People, let's show people that this negative stereotype of Young People isn't accurate, it's the minority not the majority! Young People should be SEEN and HEARD! If you show yourselves up, cross the line and say something that's too inappropriate, offensive or disrespectful, then we'll have to do something about it, that might be removing your comment, giving you a polite warning or banning you from the page. Remember, there are loads of ways you can get involved, you could just check in, you could join the emailing list for updates, you can help share and get our messages out there, you can get involved in discussions, polls, consultation, you could make suggestions, share your thoughts and ideas, you could join the youth council? Any questions, drop us a line! Stand Up! Speak Out! Be Heard! DYC

We had an amazing day, hosting our friends, partners and fellow MYP and young people from the rest of the North East, as we host our first Have Your Say North East conference.
The purpose of today was the reflect on the regional ballot results, vote on the top 3 to identify our priority campaign for 2026/27, and MOST OF ALL, get to know each other and start to build relationships and bonds, and we think we definitely did that!
Here's to the next two years!!

Also... final photo dump of the day.

29,000 young people took part in the vote.
We've looked at the results and the top three for the North East, according to the Have Your Say ballot are... Health & Wellbeing, Jobs & Opportunities and Cost of Living.
Now it's time for us to roll up our sleeves and start to plan campaigning.
