The issue of unwanted Orange marches on the Garvaghy Road is closed.

This march is steeped in a history of hate, sectarian violence, and murder.

The people of Garvaghy Road do not want this march forced through their area. It is a non-starter.

Home Heating Oil Support Scheme

The Department for Communities (DfC) brought forward proposals to the Executive on 16 April for a support package to help those most impacted by rising home heating oil costs. Executive agreement was secured to increase the £17.2 million allocated by the British Government with an additional £19.2 million – more than doubling the support available to help households with home heating oil.

The Scheme will open on 9 September 2026.

Who Will Receive Help

Awards will be limited to one per claimant and one per residential address. Recognising that a claimant’s circumstances may change over the duration of the Scheme two qualifying periods April and November 2026 will apply. The Scheme will be legislatively time limited, with applications closing on 31 March 2027.

Those who wish to avail of the Scheme must use home heating oil as their main heating source, must be resident in the six counties, and for at least one day of either qualifying period, be:

in receipt of an income-related benefit, including:
State Pension Credit, Universal Credit and Income Related Employment and Support Allowance.

in receipt of a disability benefit, including: Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, the Constant Attendance Allowance element of Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, the Constant Attendance Allowance or Mobility Supplement element of the War Pension Scheme.

A single person or a couple (including pensioners) with a joint annual income that equates to less than £30,000 (net of allowable deductions).

Some exclusions apply to those in prison or resident in a nursing home, care home, or staying as a hospital in-patient, during the qualifying period.

Application Process

Applications will be made online at nidirect, with support available via a dedicated telephone line and through local Jobs & Benefits offices.

Eligible applicants will receive a digital pre-paid voucher which can be redeemed to the value of £100 when ordering home heating oil.

We’ve seen the devastating consequences when children are struck getting on or off a bus.

This new law will give children greater protection and help prevent further tragedies on our roads.

Finucane comments on High Court ruling against Parades Commission
Sinn Féin MP John Finucane said: "Today's judgment needs to be carefully studied, but it is important to be clear about what it is and what it is not.
"The court has quashed a Parades Commission determination because of failings in how that decision was reached. It has not determined that an Orange Order parade should proceed down the Garvaghy Road, nor does today's judgment give permission for one.
"The people of the Garvaghy Road and Portadown have lived peacefully for 28 years and deserve to continue doing so. Drumcree came to represent deep sectarianism, bitterness and division, leaving wounds which have still not fully healed. Nobody should want to reopen those divisions.
"That is why the tribal and triumphalist reaction from some within political unionism today is so telling. Those declaring this a victory for unionism and loyalism should reflect on who exactly they believe has been defeated. The residents of the Garvaghy Road are not opponents to be defeated, and this should never become a contest where one community must win and another must lose.
"Our position is clear. We see no logic or justification for an Orange Order parade proceeding down the Garvaghy Road. If a fresh application is made, we will make representations to the Parades Commission firmly on that basis." See less

Continued wet weather is certainly not helping the condition of the roads. Potholes are an increasing problem and a regular cause of complaint.

All our elected reps are happy to assist in reporting problems with the roads but anyone can report a fault, a pothole, flooding etc online:

Street lighting, potholes, spillages, obstructions, drains, road signs, grass cutting and manholes

Mid Ulster Play-Park Strategy

Sinn Féin councillors met with officials from Mid Ulster District Council and representatives from Outscape this week to review the soon to be completed Play Park Strategy and to discuss a framework for the future.

Since work commenced the Council has made an investment of £3.5 million in carrying out upgrade works to modernise and improve accessibility at 52 sites across the district and a further four new play parks have also been developed.

Speaking on behalf of the Sinn Féin group Councillor Niall McAleer said, "Continued investment in our existing play parks and identifying opportunities for new areas for young people to play will continue to be a key focus for Sinn Féin in our objective of delivery for local communities."

As of December 2025, the Passport Office in Dublin have changed the process of applying for a new passport via the ‘paper’ method.

You now must:
📞 Call the Passport Assist Service on 00353 1613 1795

📄The Passport Office team will generate a bespoke paper application form with your details pre-filled and post it to you for signing and witnessing (if necessary)

🔍You check the details on the application form, gather your supporting documents and passport photos and bring them to your local post office.

✉️Your post office will then take the payment and submit your application using the Passport postal service.
