On Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending the Chair’s Civic Service at Quaystone Chapel in Connah’s Quay, alongside fellow Connah’s Quay Town Councillors, councillors from surrounding areas and members of the community.

It is always a privilege to support this important annual event and to meet so many dignitaries who took the time to attend, including the High Sheriff of Clwyd and his wife, who were a real pleasure to meet and speak with.

Thank you to the Reverend Andrew Bradley for a wonderful service and everyone who came along and supported this special occasion for Connah’s Quay Town Council. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the continued support of local residents in reporting road safety concerns, GoSafe will be carrying out speed enforcement at the following South Ward locations this week:

📍 Ysgol Wepre / Wepre County Primary School, Ffordd Wepre – 20mph
📍 Ffordd Newydd, Connah’s Quay – 20mph
📍B5126 Mold Road, Connah’s Quay – 20mph

Please check your speed and drive with care. These limits are in place to protect children, pedestrians, cyclists, and everyone who lives in our community.

I have also recently asked Highways to monitor traffic on Wepre Lane and Ffordd Newydd to gather evidence in support of Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) to help deter speeding. I am currently awaiting a response. In addition, our local neighbourhood policing team will soon be trialling new handheld speed enforcement devices capable of issuing on-the-spot fines. Progress is being made, and I will continue campaigning until these measures are in place. 🚸🚗

This image shows the remnants of a fire that was started in the Wepre Park area yesterday.
It was still smouldering this morning and, thankfully, park rangers were able to extinguish it before it spread and caused more serious damage.
These incidents put people, wildlife and the environment at risk - particularly during hot/dry weather periods when fires can rapidly get out of control.
Even when a fire appears to be out, it can continue to smoulder and reignite.
If you see a fire or suspicious activity, report it.
If there is an immediate risk to life or property, always call 999.

Tesco Fruit & Veg Grants programme is looking for applications around North and Mid Wales. This funding aims to make a positive difference to children and improve their access to free fruit and veg to support a healthy, nutritious diet.

Eligible project ideas include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Organisations that provide a healthy meal/snack as part of the project
• Addressing holiday hunger amongst children outside of school time
• Foodbanks who provide food support to families
• Growing produce in allotments/planters
• Healthy eating projects that support families

🚗 Wepre Park car parking charges are now in effect from today, 27 July 2026.

Charges apply seven days a week, including Bank Holidays, from 9am–9pm:

• Up to 2 hours – £1 • Up to 4 hours – £2 • Full day – £4

Payment can be made by cash, debit or credit card, or through the PayByPhone app.

♿ Blue Badge holders can park free of charge, provided they display a valid badge and park in a marked disabled bay. If parking elsewhere, the normal charges must be paid.

Flintshire residents can also apply for a 12-month parking permit costing £50. To request an application form, email [email protected] or visit a Flintshire Connects Centre.

Applicants will need to provide a copy of the vehicle’s V5 document and a utility bill as proof of Flintshire residency.

Our volunteer roster for this Sunday is coming together but we volunteers... more hands, more smiles, more cheers and more hi-viz hero's.

"Can you be a hi-viz hero 🤔 Yes you.. reading this post right now 🤔 Yes...you can 🫡"

Young, not so young, parents, grandparents, or you just want to come and support our juniors as they whizz through Wepre Park, everyone is welcome.

Various volunteer roles are available, join our friendly team, come a give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Volunteers meet to the rear of Wepre park visitors centre at 08:30am and we usually finish around 09:30am.

We do still require the following for this Sunday;

🔴 Funnel Manager:
Keeps participants moving swiftly in the correct order once they cross the line so no times or tokens get mixed up.

🔴 Parkwalker:
Walks the course offering encouragement to the juniors who walk alongside and are not running.

🔴 Marshals x 2:
Stationed safely along the 2k route, they direct participants, warn of obstacles, and offer high-fives and loud, continuous encouragement.
