Over the historic Buckingham Palace, the Royal Air Force had the honour of flying a selection of aircraft to celebrate the Official Birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.

And we at Royal Air Force Coningsby couldn't resist the chance to show you some of the images our RAF Photographers captured before and during this amazing event.

Our aircrew and ground crews put prepared meticulously for this historic flypast — and every second of that dedication was visible in the skies above London: from the roar of engines during takeoff to the precision of formation flying over The Mall.

If you, or anyone you know, has any information that will assist in identifying the pilot of this drone, please contact Lincolnshire Police by emailing [email protected] or by calling 101 quoting incident number 344 of the 26 of May 2026.

Safety incident between an aircraft and a drone

We are appealing for information after the crew of an RAF Prefect aircraft sighted a drone flying at dangerously high levels, near Wispington, Horncastle.

The drone was being flown at 9000 feet, for safety reasons the maximum legal height limit a drone can be flown at is 400 feet.

The incident happened around 3pm on Tuesday 26 May in the airspace above the Wispington area.

Kev Taylor, Chief Drone Pilot and Flight Safety Manager for Lincolnshire Police, said: “We know the majority of drone pilots fly legally and safely and although it’s unusual to see drones at this height, we have sadly seen this before. Lincolnshire Airspace is very busy with the Red Arrows, Battle of Britain, Air Ambulance and many military and civil crewed aircraft flying daily alongside many drone flights. It goes without saying the safety of all air users is paramount.”

We would like to hear from anyone who has any information that will assist us in identifying the pilot of this drone.
Please contact Lincolnshire Police by emailing [email protected] or by calling 101 quoting incident number 344 of the 26 of May 2026.

We're incredibly proud to support one of our own here at RAF Coningsby! Flight Lieutenant Joe Matthews is taking on a gruelling 51km Ultra Marathon through the Brecon Beacons on 8 August, conquering over 2,144 metres of elevation in one of the UK's toughest trail challenges.

Joe is raising £4,000 for four fantastic charities close to the military community — Head Up, REORG, The Not Forgotten, and Team Forces — and has already raised £880 towards his goal.

As part of his training, Joe is also running a series of races dedicated to each charity. He recently smashed a personal best of 1:42:48 at the Chester Half Marathon, and his next race is the Coniston Half Marathon in the Lake District on 7 June, in aid of The Not Forgotten.

Every contribution brings Joe closer to his goal and makes a real difference to these outstanding charities: https://givestar.io/gs/project51brecon
