Could your next short journey be made on foot, by bike or by bus?

Choosing to walk or cycle for some local journeys can help reduce traffic and emissions – and it's a great way to enjoy more of Congleton too.

Congleton has a network of local walks, footpaths and cycling routes, with plenty of opportunities to leave the car at home and explore.

💚 This week’s challenge: Swap just one short car journey for a walk or bike ride.

Why not pop into Congleton Information Centre for local walking leaflets!

Small changes can make a big difference! The next free bus day in Congleton will be for the Green Frestival on 26 September, travel within the Congleton Boundary for free!

Congleton will come together this month to celebrate the people who give their time, energy and commitment to serving their community, as Town Mayor Cllr Suzy Firkin hosts her Civic Parade and Service on Sunday 13 September.

Cllr Suzy Firkin said:
“There are so many people in Congleton who give their time to help others and make a difference in our community, often without expecting any recognition. My Civic Service is an opportunity to celebrate that contribution and say thank you to everyone who gives their time, skills and energy in the service of others.

Whether through volunteering, supporting a local organisation, helping a neighbour or working to improve our town, every contribution matters."

🌱 You don't have to change the world overnight.

Sometimes it's the small things that add up.

♻️ Reuse something instead of throwing it away.
🌿 Grow something at home.
🐝 Make space for wildlife.
🚲 Leave the car at home for a short journey.
🛍️ Choose local.
🔧 Repair instead of replace.

At the Congleton Green Festival, you can discover lots of simple ideas, local projects and people who can help you take those next steps.

Come along, have a chat, try something new and find out what’s happening right here in Congleton. 💚

Can you help us improve how we police in our local communities?
If you’re interested, why not join the Community Cohesion Group?

Community Cohesion Groups (CCGs) bring together people living or working in the local area to look at local police activity.
You’ll be able to review incidents and watch body worn video footage, giving your feedback and opinions on what you see including Stop and Search, Use of Force and Hate Crime reports.

In addition to these, you will have the opportunity to look at other areas of concern in your area during the Community Forum.

The next one is TUESDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER AT 6.30pm in Holmes Chapel Community Centre.

If you would like to take part, please email Inspector Jim Adams to register your interest:

This year’s Civic Service has a special focus on public service, recognising the contribution made by the many volunteers, community groups, charities, organisations and individuals who help make Congleton a thriving and caring place to live.

Local schools, clubs, charities, businesses and community organisations are being invited to join the Civic Parade, bringing their flags, banners or anything that represents the work they do in the town.

The parade will assemble at Antrobus Street Car Park from 1.15 pm and set off at 1.30 pm, led by Rode Hall Silver Band. It will then make its way to Congleton Town Hall, where the Civic Service will begin at 2pm.
