Crews from Colyton were returning from an operational incident when they were alerted by Fire Control to immediately proceed to a vehicle fire. Heavy smoke was visible en route.
Once in attendance with Axminster the vehicle was confirmed well alight. The fire was affecting surrounding vehicles and property. Four Breathing Apparatus were quickly deployed due to the severity and immediately tasked with protecting the property whilst extinguishing the fire.

We have just attended a fire with Seaton Fire Station on bunts lane the road is still currently closed and due to water run-off the area at the bottom of bunts lane to the top of marlpit lane may become very icey this evening. Please try and find alternative routes if possible.

Stay safe.

Be careful on the roads today, lots of unexpected black ice on the smaller lanes. There’s an upturned car in a ditch on the road from Whitford to Musbury 🙁

Tonight the crew from Colyton were called out to 2 people stuck in their car in floodwater between Whitford and Musbury.
2 crew members wore flood suits and waded to the car and assisted the occupants to safety.
We would like to remind everyone to avoid this area when it rains heavily and find an alternative route. 🚒

Whitford to Musbury impassable, please don’t attempt to get through and please don’t remove the road closed tape. Please share this post. 🚒

During these current conditions as set out in the yellow & amber weather warnings by the Met office , we have seen an increase in incidents of vehicles driving through flood water .
Please see below from our website advice on how to stay safe during this weather :
‼️Respect road closure signs, whether you’re driving or walking.‼️
‼️There may be hidden dangers like open drains, damaged road surfaces, submerged debris, or deep channels. These can cause serious injuries or even death.‼️
‼️Never drive through floodwater
Don’t make unnecessary trips in bad weather conditions. You could harm yourself and others too.‼️
‼️Vehicles can become stuck and even swept away in just 30cm of flowing water.
If we attend incidents where vehicles are in floodwater, it means we are not available to help others who may be in greater danger.‼️

The crew from the fire station joined in with the celebrations on Wednesday evening when the Christmas lights were turned on in the town.
They were able to chat to people about fire safety during the festive season.
Here's a few tips:

Check fairy lights for signs of damage: Don't use them if they show signs of damage, such as frayed wiring.

Switch off decorative lights before bed or before you go out.

Ensure that your electrical sockets are not overloaded.

With electronic devices, follow the manufacturers guidance to ensure that you are using them as safely as possible.

Check your escape routes when planning and putting up Christmas trees: Double check that your tree and other decorations do not block escape route. Check that you and your guests know where exits and escape routes are if there were to be an emergency.

Keep your Christmas tree watered and away from heat sources: A real Christmas tree can be extremely flammable, so it is important to be aware of how to reduce your risks.
