‘Kids Go Free in August’ Park and Ride promotion.

The promotion allows under 16s, accompanied by an adult, to hop on a Park and Ride bus to Colchester or Chelmsford for free after 9am each day this August.

A daily ticket costs just £3 for adults with discounts available for weekly and monthly fares. Concessionary pass holders travel free from 9am Monday to Friday and all day Saturdays. Chelmsford is served by two Park and Ride sites: Chelmer Valley (CM3 3PR) to the north and Sandon (CM2 7RU) to the south.

Colchester (CO4 5JA) has a large site just off Junction 28 of the A12, opposite Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Services run to and from each site at regular intervals throughout the day from Monday to Saturday. The Park and Ride does not run on Sunday, public holidays and Bank Holidays.

Essex County Council provides home to school, social care and some local bus services for the people of Essex.

Essex County Council purchases transport for over 20,000 children to travel to mainstream and special need schools each day, transport for looked after children, older people and people with learning disabilities and physical and sensory impairments. Essex County Council also funds approximately 15% of bus services in the County that include many evening, rural and Sunday buses that cannot be sustained commercially but are deemed socially necessary.
This survey is being undertaken so Essex County Council can assess and improve the services being delivered by transport suppliers on our behalf.

Community Broadband Survey

The recently upgraded Earls Colne telephone exchange is now accepting orders for fibre broadband in some parts of Chappel. This is great news and will mean greater broadband speeds for households connected to this exchange.

Unfortunately properties east of the viaduct are connected to the Fordham exchange (EAFOR) are still suffering very slow broadband speeds.

In an attempt to accelerate the process of getting better broadband to these properties we are conducting a broadband survey.

The data collected in this survey will be used as the basis for approaching local officials and providers of superfast broadband with the aim to bring great broadband to everyone in the area serviced by the Fordham exchange.

Go online and take the survey here:

www.eafor.net

The Fordham telephone exchange (EAFOR) is not currently fibre enabled. The broadband speeds available to households connected to this exchange greatly varies with many not being able to achieve the government minimum goal of 2 Mbs.

Rogue Traders:

• Doorstep or Rogue traders are operating now in the communities where we live and work. Are they knocking on your relative, neighbour or friends door today offering unnecessary work or have they started work already and are now asking for a lot more money than the bargain price they initially quoted.

• The victims of these doorstep/rogue traders normally are too embarrassed or concerned to report incidents so we are asking that if you have concerns you phone the Trading Standards helpline, run by Citizens Advice via 03454 040506.

• Essex County Council Trading Standards have produced an animation which we know will raise awareness of this issue and would ask you to share the link below with family, friends, neighbours and any organisation(s) that are willing to share the animation with their members or followers.
