This week in the Caterpillar room, our intent is to focus on our own body parts as part of a naming game. We have done this in many different ways this week. This included:
On Monday, we enjoyed dressing our own body parts, which involved using clothes and putting them onto the correct body part. We all sat together and took it in turns to choose what we wanted to put on and helped each other or received help from adults when needed. This also encouraged our independence and turn-taking skills.
On Tuesday, we were finding body part pictures in a tray of flour and then trying to locate that body part on our own bodies. We used both our hands and paintbrushes to move the flour around the tray and find the pictures. We then tried very hard to find our own body part that matched, but also supported our friends who weren't able to do it yet. We then extended this activity by placing the tray on the floor and starting body part printing in the flour. We made footprints and handprints in the flour and also made pretend snow on our heads by getting flour on our hands and clapping them together. This also encouraged good teamwork.
On Wednesday, we used the children's interest in dancing to create a "shake the body part" dancing game. This involved us dancing around the room to some of our favourite songs and shaking the body part that one of the adults would shout out and demonstrate. This also encouraged our spacial awareness, listening, and following instructions.
On Thursday, it was World Book Day, so we had many different book-themed activities that also included our intent, such as our "Dear Zoo" activity, which involved trying to find certain body parts on the animals. We also had a colour monster tray where we had to organise the colour monsters by colour. We enjoyed dressing up in our amazing outfits and even took turns trying on an adult's funky light-up glasses.
On Friday, we have been trying to recognise what part of the body certain objects are used for, such as a toothbrush, hairbrush, makeup brush, and washcloths. This involved us looking in the mirrors and trying to use the different resources correctly. We also enjoyed trying to support our friends in understanding what each object is used for. This also encouraged our awareness of hygiene routines.

Dragonflies world book day

Today we had so much fun celebrating and doing activities based on all of our favourite books!

We linked mother's Day with an activity based on who we love and why using the guess how much I love you book.

Our favourite book at the moment is the dinosaur that pooped a princess! We used this book to practice our understanding of how stories are structured by selecting sentences and putting them in order. Suggesting our own ways of how the story starts and ends.

Some of the children have been having their preschool jabs the last few weeks so we set up a doctor's based upon dress fab jab, we took it in turns to visit and discuss what was wrong, we discussed how brave we had been and were telling the friends that hadn't yet had them how they didn't hurt!

We have been growing our own vegetables so used our garden book and some flowers to make some playdoh, we spoke about the smells and colours and counted how many petals we had used. We then used the stems and the flowers to make our own gardens looking at plants and what they need to grow.

This week In the ladybird room we have been exploring songs, most which included numbers! We loved the songs old MacDonald, 5 speckled frogs, 5 little men in a flying saucer, Incy wincy spider and 10 fat sausages. From the song trays this week, we have shown interest in playing with sounds, songs and rhymes as well as counting! Through out the room we had other activities all about numbers where we could practice reciting number names in sequence!

This week in Dragonflies we have been focusing on constructing with a purpose in mind using a variety of resources.
We have also celebrated lots of special events this week!

We used our building cards, blueprints and floorplans to look at and learn how buildings are constructed, the different shapes they are and what we could use to replicate these.
We added in our recycling, blocks and bricks to see what the children could create!

On Tuesday it was random acts of kindness day, shrove Tuesday and also the start of Chinese New year!
We have drawn some pictures to hide around our community to make people smile on their walks :) on our playdoh table we have been looking at how we can be good friends to our peers, making hearts for our peers and weighing all of our ingredients to make the playdoh working together as a team.

For Chinese New year we have been learning about the different ways in which people celebrate, we have been using our fine motor skills to make our own lanterns, self selecting the resources we would like to use, we looked at the different meals people like to cook and eat and created our own restaurant and menus.
We took a look at the dances and even practiced forming the first letter of our name in Chinese!

For shrove Tuesday we looked at what it is all about, how different people celebrate, the religion and of course what toppings we have on our pancakes!
We also had some numbered 'pancakes' that we are going to practice flipping in a frying pan!

Friday was love your pet week so all week we will be discussing our favourite animals and why, what pets if any we have at home and how we help to look after and care for them, we also had Bobby the rabbit up with us so we can look after him and make sure he has food and water.

The children have also loved our outdoor play this week, we have been looking at risk management, creating our own obstacle courses and managing the risk involved to decide whether it was safe or not.

This week In bumblebees, we focused on how to, enjoy throwing, catching and rolling balls! This week in bumblebees we loved exploring the ball bit, the children love sitting in the balls and one by one rolling them out of the ball pit, this helps with our fine + gross motor skills, it helps our movements in our arms and legs. We also explored the garden balls, we loved using our feet for these.
In bumblebees, we also celebrated Chinese New year, at pm snack, the children got to try different foods such as 'noodles, bean sprouts, and prawn crackers. The children loved trying all the new foods and loved exploring the textures of the foods.
We also celebrated pancake Day, for this we made, our own playdough with this we used yoghurt + flour to make this, we then had our different shape cutters and rolling pins so the children could make their own pancakes in different shapes, again the children loved to explore this, and enjoyed eating the playdough as it was as safe to eat, and loved exploring the textures.

This week in the Caterpillar room out intent has been to try new food tastes and textures. We have been doing this through food tasting activities and making our own pizza's and vegetable kebabs. We have been very busy this week trying lots of new food tastes and textures which consisted of us making our own flavoured water on Monday using fruits and water. We celebrated the Chinese new year with chicken chow main and also by making our own noodles for our afternoon snack on Tuesday which was also pancake day so we decorated our own pancakes for pudding at tea time in the afternoon. We then had a a fruit tasting activity on Wednesday which included many different fruits some of which we hadn't tried before. We then made our own pizza's for our tea on Thursday which we tried the ingredients before putting them on our pizza's to see if we liked them. We then made our own vegetable kebabs to go with our tea on Friday which again we tried the vegetables first before putting them on the kebabs to see if we liked them. We have all been willing to try new foods and flavours and have been discovering our own likes and dislikes while doing so. We have all been really independent this week and tried to do lots of things by ourselves first before getting help from an adult.

This week in the ladybird room we have been focusing on a few intents. Understanding more complex sentences, beginning to make believe by pretending and to be able to help with putting on shoes and clothes. On Monday we had an around the world animal tray. The tray was split into 4 different areas, sea animals, bugs, wild animals and zoo animals. We talked about where each animal lives and talked about each of their properties. My friends enjoyed pretending to be each animal making their noises and talking to others by using the animals to talk.
On Tuesday we had the colour monster feelings tray. This is because it is children's mental health week. We explored each different emotion that the monster is feeling and then talked to our friends about what emotion they are feeling today. We linked the colours to their emotions. For example, blue is sad, red is angry, yellow is happy, green is calm, black is fear and pink is love. They also used their fine motor skills to use the scissors to cut the pasta whilst talking about the colours and textures.
On Wednesday we had a doctors tray for my friends to pretend their doctors (photos on other post).
On Thursday we had a playdough emotion tray where my friends got to use the playdough to create their own faces and express how they felt that day.
On friday we had a valentine's flower potion tray where we explored different smells and expanded our understanding of complex sentences by the interactions from us staff within the room asking 2 part questions and sentences.

On Wednesday we had a doctors tray where my friends had to pretend to be doctors and help treat the babies. I got out different resources for them, including bandages, cotton balls, eye patches, face masks and different doctors tools. They each explored how to use each one by themselves and then I helped show them by wrapping up a baby myself. We talked about how babies get hurt and what we need to use to treat these babies. Later in the day my friends started to sing baby shark. So I showed my friends that we can help babies with the baby shark song. I showed them how to do CPR on a baby whilst singing the song. My friends in the ladybird room were super clever and were able to use their two fingers to press the babies chest down and then give a couple of rescue breaths! They were super proud of themselves for knowing how to help a baby!

This week in Caterpillars our intent has been to show a desire with dressing and un******ng and also hygiene routines. We have enjoyed wiping our own hands and faces after meal times using wipes and also taking our own shoes off before using the slide and trying to put them back on again after. We have shown amazing progress throughout the week as we have been practising lots and have also been watching and copying the adults and friends. To extend from this we have had activities that have focused on hygiene routines which included teeth brushing and wiping our own faces in the mirror.
We have also been showing our love and celebrating valentines day by having valentine themed activities and also got very creative and made valentines day cards for our parents/carers.
On Friday we decided to take a trip over to the local park where we had lots of fun going up and down the slide, getting pushed on the swing and also using team work to push our friends on the swings. We also used very good turn taking when using the equipment in the park!
