Following recent coalition discussions at Colchester City Council, our focus remains on providing stable, effective leadership for the city.

The political situation has changed significantly since the elections, and while previous arrangements were unable to proceed, we remain committed to working constructively in the best interests of Colchester residents.

Our priority is delivering good local government, protecting services and ensuring the city continues to move forward.

A lovely evening at The Odd One Out for our latest Pint & Politics.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. It was great to see so many people enjoying the beautiful garden, catching up with friends, meeting new faces and sharing ideas in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

These events are a reminder that good politics starts with conversation, community and listening to one another. A big thank you as well to The Odd One Out for being such wonderful hosts.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Pint of Politics in June!

Congratulations to Cllr Paul Smith on becoming Deputy Mayor of Colchester for 2026/27. A proud moment and a well deserved recognition of his dedication to our city and local communities.

Paul has worked tirelessly for residents across Colchester, always bringing energy, commitment and good humour to public service. We know he will be an excellent ambassador for the city in the year ahead.

Wishing Paul every success as he takes on this important civic role alongside the new Mayor, Cllr Andrew Ellis.

Congratulations to Cllr Andrew Ellis on becoming Colchester’s 193rd Mayor, and to Mrs Nicky Ellis as Mayoress for the year ahead.

Andrew has always been a passionate advocate for Colchester’s communities, and his theme of “Growing Well - Helping Colchester Flourish” reflects exactly the kind of positive, community-focused leadership our city needs.

We also wish to thank outgoing Mayor Cllr Michael Lilley for his dedication and service over the past year. Best wishes to both mayors as they continue supporting communities, charities and organisations across Colchester.

Important reminder from Colchester City Council - many households will have new bin collection days from next week.

Check your updated recycling calendar for your road before putting your bins out: https://www.colchester.gov.uk/your-recycling-calendar/

Check your bin days! ♻️🗓️ They might be changing!

New recycling calendars running from 1 June are now live on our website. Many households will have a new collection day from next week, so make sure you double check what’s happening with YOUR collection. 👍

UPDATE: After a bug was found the calendar was briefly taken down and is now back up!

A huge amount of work has gone into bringing the new Vue cinema at the Northern Gateway forward, and Mark Cory has been one of the key people driving the vision over the line.

Projects like this do not just happen overnight. They take persistence, partnership working, investment confidence and a belief in the long-term future of Colchester.

The Northern Gateway continues to evolve into a major leisure, business and visitor destination for the city, helping to create jobs, attract investment and give residents more reasons to spend time locally.

Well done Mark and everyone involved in making it happen. It opens tomorrow!

‼️ All residents should keep an eye out for communication in the coming weeks about changes to their collection day or week - not just those receiving bins in this first phase. We’ll share more information on our socials, as well as through letters and/or postcards depending on how you are affected. 👀

The wait is over! 🙌 Colchester’s wheeled bin rollout begins next week!

Around 18,000 households across selected parts of the city will receive new bins as part of an early rollout starting on Monday. 🤗

As previously announced, the rollout will then continue in stages across Colchester until next March, although some homes unsuitable for wheeled bins will continue using bags as normal. 👍

If you’re in an early rollout area, your bins will arrive with a leaflet explaining everything you need to know, including when to start using them. 📅

‼️ All residents should keep an eye out for communication in the coming weeks about changes to their collection day or week - not just those receiving bins in this first phase. We’ll share more information on our socials, as well as through letters and/or postcards depending on how you are affected. 👀

Right… let’s start a wave of positivity across Colchester and beyond.

Tag a local business, community group, charity, volunteer, creator, café, tradesperson, neighbour or just a genuinely good human being who deserves a little social media love today.

Tell us why they’re brilliant.

Small businesses are working hard.
Community groups are holding people together.
Charities are supporting people quietly every single day.
Good people rarely get enough recognition.

So let’s change that for a moment.

Tag them below, give them a boost, and keep the wave going by tagging more people in the comments.

Let’s fill this thread with good people doing good things.
