Claire is an invaluable member of our Volunteers group, running both our Warm Welcomes coffee morning every Friday, and our new and highly popular Neurodiverse support group "Unmasked", on every Tuesday. ๐Ÿต

Claire said that she is โ€œworking hard to build Colchester's communi-tea, one cup at a time!โ€

We think you deserve a biscuit too! Thank you so much Claire, for everything you do. ๐Ÿซถ

Reece is a newer volunteer at Colchester Library, and is having a big impact front of house greeting customers, and behind the scenes helping with our shelving! ๐Ÿ“š

He had this to say about his time here:

โ€œI learnt how to scan books with the scanner to check books back into the library and put them onto the shelves. I learnt how to unlock the doors with the special ID card I have. My favourite part is scanning the books. I learnt a lot at work experience. I also greeted people in the entrance of the library and helped people in the play area.โ€

Thank you Reece, for all your hard work!

Marilyn and Ann have been inspiring our youngest library members with our amazing Rhymetime sessions at Colchester Library for quite some time! ๐Ÿป

They had this to say about their experience:

Marilyn
โ€œI enjoy volunteering at Rhymetime because it gives a sense of purpose and enjoyment each week. I love seeing the children, parents, and grandparents joining in and appreciating the sessions. Itโ€™s rewarding to help create happy memories together. Itโ€™s a role that brings me both pleasure and a strong sense of connection.โ€

Ann
โ€œI enjoy volunteering for Rhyme Time. I have been doing Rhymetime for two years now, its lovely to see the children enjoying and joining in. Many come back to see us during the school holidays, itโ€™s great to think that they still remember us. Hopefully keeping the grey matter working!โ€

Thank you Marilyn and Ann, from everyone at Colchester library! ๐Ÿ‘

Its National Volunteers Week, and we're celebrating big time at Colchester Library!

This is Daisy, who runs our amazing Teen Creative writing group. She supports our budding young local authors to expand and develop their various projects, and inspires them to try our new techniques to grow as writers.

Daisy had this to say about her experience:

"Leading the Teen Creative Writing Group at Colchester Library is a lot of fun. I'm always so impressed by the talent, imagination and enthusiasm of the young people I work with. Spaces are free and open now for anyone aged 12 to 17 who wants to join us. I have a real love for words โ€“ my Bachelor's degree was in English Literature and Creative Writing, and I've written professionally ever since โ€“ so it's wonderful to pass that onto the next generation (even if they don't always get my pop culture references!) I took a short career break after the birth of my son, and volunteering has been a great thing to do during this new chapter. The confidence and experience it's given me have opened doors to new opportunities, including working with the Essex Book Festival. But the best part is seeing the young people in the group grow in confidence and start to find their voices as writers. I just hope they all remember me when they're famous!"
