New Exhibit Alert - 'When words become visible' 🎨

'When Words Become Visible' is a community exhibition that celebrates the connection between storytelling and artistic expression. This exhibition is not about artistic perfection or professional experience. It is about connection, imagination, and the stories that shape us. Alongside each artwork, the participants share a brief reflection about the words that inspired their piece and why they chose to express them visually. The artwork produced is from Level Best, St Fillan’s Care Centre, St John’s C of E Primary School, Loganberry Lodge Care Home, Clare Welton and Iris Lee. Come and explore this exhibition see what happens when stories leave the page.

There will also be a special reception, to celebrate all of our wonderful contributors on Wednesday September 9, from 3pm to 7pm. There will be light refreshments served, and fantastic discussions had! Free and open to all - see you there!

Love reading? Join us and author Louise Millar for this fresh take on a book group, discussing and analysing stories and poems together.

As part of its programme for the National Year of Reading, the Royal Literacy Fund is facilitating reading groups in libraries across the country in the month of September.

The RLF’s “Reading Round” programme offers library-users an experience very different to conventional book clubs: there is no homework – group members gather to have a short story and a poem read to them, then put under the microscope through engaged discussion. Reading Round is suitable for literary aficionados and novices alike.

Groups are led by RLF Fellows – published authors of national acclaim. Colchester Library is lucky enough to have author Louise Millar running our sessions.

These sessions are free to attend but booking is required. Each session lasts 90 minutes, and will be held on Saturdays 12, 19, and 26 September at 11am.

Heading into town for Invasion Colchester? The library will have something for everyone - from children's superhero crafts and colouring, to our graphic novel comic book displays. We're also opening up our Cavendish Media Suite as a photobooth, so people with amazing costumes can take pictures using our greenscreen and lighting. The Gruffalo had some fun showing off his Superman costume!

Saturday will also be your last day to collect your SRC stickers and medals, so bring along your booklets!

We'll see you there, you super-readers! 🌠
