Very recently I was contacted by Cheslyn Hay residents with regards to hedges and bushes that are causing a dangerous traffic hazard due to the visual obstruction they are creating, on the corner of Dundalk Lane & Moons Lane.

As a consequence I contacted the Highways team and asked if this safety issue could be investigated due to the potential dangers it posses. As a result this was immediately investigated and is now down for attention.

Issues such as this are a County Council responsibility but Susan and I will always support our residents whenever there is a need for the benefit and safety of all our residents.

Susan and I had the immense pleasure and privilege to be invited yet again to the 1st Cheslyn Hay Boys Brigade Presentation evening on Friday.

Organisations such as the Boys Brigade offer so very much for our young people’s personal development. They not only give a strong sense of purpose to our young people’s lives but offer entertainment, fellowship and many of the skills and attributes necessary in there on going development. I was a member myself for many years in the 5th West Bromwich so I can speak with confidence.

There are so many good youth organisations available to our young people but if it’s the Boys Brigade you are looking for I cannot recommend our own 1st Cheslyn Hay Boys Brigade highly enough.

🚗 Cheslyn Hay Traffic – Have Your Say

Many residents have raised concerns about traffic and congestion in Cheslyn Hay, and this is exactly the kind of issue the new Local Plan consultation is asking for your views on.

With the Council starting work on a new Local Plan, now is the time to highlight:

🔹 Busy routes and traffic hotspots 🚦

🔹 Concerns about increased congestion from future developments

🔹 Road safety issues and pressure on local junctions

🔹 The need for better infrastructure to support our growing community

This current consultation is the first stage, where residents can help shape what the plan should prioritise.

🗣 Why your input matters

Future development decisions will take these views into account, so it’s important that Cheslyn Hay residents clearly set out the traffic challenges we already face.

🗓 Consultation open now

Closes: Midday, 22 July 2026

⚽️Keeping Our Communities Safe During the World Cup 🏆

With the World Cup just around the corner, many of us will be getting together with friends, family, neighbours and teammates to enjoy the matches, support England, and hopefully celebrate plenty of goals. It’s a brilliant time for communities to come together and it’s also a time when local policing steps up to keep everyone safe.

Across Staffordshire, officers will be out in our towns, villages and city centres throughout the tournament. Their presence is there to reassure, respond quickly to concerns, and make sure everyone can enjoy the summer safely.

This isn’t about spoiling anyone’s fun. It is about taking firm action against those who choose to put others at risk whether that’s anti‑social behaviour, drink or drug driving, or domestic abuse. During the last World Cup, more than 190 people were arrested on suspicion of drink driving. We cannot afford to see that repeated on our roads.

Chief Inspector Scott McGrath from the road crime team put it plainly:

“Your best option if you’re heading out to enjoy the World Cup this summer is to drink or drive.”

Officers will be patrolling proactively before and after televised games to identify drink and drug drivers. Many people don’t realise they can still be over the limit the morning after drinking — and that can lead to arrest, prosecution, and devastating consequences. Please plan ahead: book taxis, arrange lifts, or walk where possible.

Throughout the summer, police will continue routine patrols across Staffordshire to ensure concerns are dealt with quickly and residents feel safe. Teams will also be working closely with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to promote safe barbecues and outdoor fire safety with a zero‑tolerance approach to deliberate fires.

Most people will enjoy the World Cup responsibly. But for the small minority who don’t, action will be taken to protect our communities.

To report a crime, call 101 or use Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website.
In an emergency, always call 999.

Let all hope the best team wins 🥇

🎭 The Prince of Wales Theatre – Standing With My Cannock Conservative Colleagues

Many residents have been asking me what is happening with the much‑loved Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock, so I want to share an update — and to express my full support for the work my Cannock Conservative colleagues are doing to move this forward.

They have been absolutely clear in their commitment to keeping the theatre in Cannock and working towards seeing it reopened for the community. They strongly opposed last year’s closure, and with a new administration now in place, this is the right moment to restart the conversation and properly explore every option.

To ensure this happens, my colleagues have formally called for a meeting with the new Reform Cabinet and all councillors so the future of the theatre can be discussed urgently and transparently. Residents deserve clarity, honesty, and a plan and I fully support their push for exactly that.

They have also reached out to the Theatres Trust, the UK’s national advisory body for theatres, who have offered to visit Cannock and provide expert guidance on sustainability, funding models, and what has worked in other towns. Bringing in independent, professional advice is a vital step before any long‑term decisions are made.

The Prince of Wales Theatre has been part of our shared cultural life for generations. It matters to Cannock, and it matters to all of us in the surrounding communities who have enjoyed it for decades.

I’ll continue to support my Cannock Conservative colleagues as they push for a positive, sustainable future for this much‑loved theatre and I’ll keep residents updated as this progresses. 💙

Together we make a difference.

📣 Cheslyn Hay Residents – Help Shape Our Area’s Future 📣

South Staffordshire Local Plan - Scoping Consultation and Call for Sites

South Staffordshire Council has begun work on a new Local Plan, and this is your first chance to have your say.

What is the Local Plan?

It’s an important document that will guide decisions on:

🔹 Where new housing may go

🔹 What infrastructure is needed (roads, schools, GP services)

🔹 How our local communities, including Cheslyn Hay, develop in the future

This first stage is called the Scoping Consultation – it’s about listening to residents on what issues and priorities the plan should address.

🗓 Consultation dates

• Starts: 10 June 2026

• Closes: Midday, 22 July 2026

📝 Why this matters to Cheslyn Hay

This is the earliest stage of the process, so it’s your opportunity to:

🔸 Raise concerns about local pressures (traffic, services, green space)

🔸 Share what you value about our area

🔸 Help influence where future development should or shouldn’t happen

There is also a “Call for Sites”, where landowners can put forward land for potential development consideration.

✅ My message to residents

I strongly encourage all Cheslyn Hay residents to take a few minutes to respond. This is your chance to help shape the future of our community before decisions are made.

🌟 New Community Hub Opening at Great Wyrley Academy – Supporting Local Families & Cutting Food Waste ♻️

I’m pleased to share that Great Wyrley Academy will officially open TheHub@Wyrley on Saturday 20th June 2026, a fantastic new community space designed to support local families, promote wellbeing, and help reduce food waste. Susan and I are delighted to have been invited to the official opening and to see this important project come to life.

The Hub brings together family support, health partners, youth services, and a low‑cost community shop all under one roof. It’s a welcoming place where residents can access help without barriers and feel part of a connected, supportive community.

A key feature is the new Community Fridge, created with Helping Hearts Food Bank. For just £2 a year, members can access affordable, good‑quality groceries while helping prevent surplus food from going to landfill. After a soft launch in April, more than 40 residents have already joined — a brilliant start.

The Grand Opening will bring together families, volunteers, partners, and dignitaries including Cllr Kathleen Perry MBE and Windsor Academy Trust CEO Dawn Haywood. The event will showcase the Hub, the Community Fridge, and a range of health and wellbeing stands, along with family activities and refreshments.

This is a real step forward for Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay — a community‑driven project that will make a genuine difference to local families. Susan and I look forward to joining the celebration.

🏍️ ACTION TAKEN ON NUISANCE OFF‑ROAD BIKES IN OUR AREA 🏍️

Yesterday afternoon (Monday 8 June), police were called to Orchard Close, Cannock at 12.10pm following reports of individuals riding off‑road motorbikes dangerously, pulling wheelies and causing a real nuisance to residents.

Officers attended quickly, seized the bikes on scene, and the riders have been reported for riding without a licence and with no insurance. These bikes will now be destroyed.

This is exactly the kind of anti‑social behaviour that blights communities, and I want residents to know that action is being taken. I will always back firm enforcement against those who think they can tear around our streets and put others at risk.

Staffordshire Police remain committed to tackling nuisance bikes and wider ASB across our area — but they rely on your reports. If you witness this type of behaviour, please report it via 101 or the Live Chat service on the Staffordshire Police website.

If you prefer to stay anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Together, we will keep Cheslyn Hay and the surrounding area safe, respectful and community‑minded.

🌿 Pinfold Lane & Pinfold Lane / High Street – Green Spaces Update 🌿

Following recent concerns raised by residents, I have received a detailed update from the Council regarding both Pinfold Lane Open Space and the Pinfold Lane / High Street green space.

🌳Pinfold Lane Open Space 🌳

🔹 The Council has confirmed that no grass cutting has been missed and routine maintenance is ongoing.

🔹 Shrubs behind properties were reduced last year, with one section left due to bird nesting considerations.

🔹 There is bramble growth on the far side of the field, which is starting to encroach on the space. This will be addressed in the winter, once nesting season has finished and access allows the work to be carried out safely.

🌻Pinfold Lane / High Street Green Space

🔸 New turf has recently been laid, and crews have been attending to water the area daily to help it establish.

🔸 The Council has acknowledged the area is currently looking tired in places, but improvement is expected as the turf settles.

🔸 Path improvement works have been commissioned and will be carried out by a contractor.

🔸 The tree stump on site will be removed.

🔸 Areas of long grass (previously left for daffodils) will now be cut, and shrubs will be cut back from the paths as part of routine maintenance.

I hope this provides a clear and factual update. I will continue to monitor progress and share further updates with residents as works progress.

♻️Food Waste Collections – Update for Residents ♻️

I wanted to give you a quick update on the new food waste collection service, which began across South Staffordshire yesterday.

It’s been really encouraging to see such a strong start, with many households already making good use of their new food caddies. This is a positive step forward in reducing waste and improving recycling across our area.

However, as expected with a brand-new service, there have been a few early teething issues.

Because so many residents have started using the service straight away, collection vehicles have been filling up much quicker than normal. This means crews have needed to make extra trips to empty vehicles, which has led to some delays. There was also a short delay at the processing site due to a blockage being cleared.

Crews worked long hours yesterday and are continuing collections today from where they left off. An additional vehicle is also being used this week to help catch up.

The Council has advised that this is typical for the first week or two of a new service, as people empty out stored food waste. They expect things to settle down soon and for collections to return to a more regular routine.

A few helpful reminders:

🔹 If you’re in a communal property, you should now have received both your indoor caddy and shared outside food waste bin.

🔹 If you haven’t received your caddy yet, the Council is aware of a small number of missing deliveries and is working through these.

🔹 You can request more liners using the tag on your caddy, or use shop-bought alternatives if you prefer.

Garden Waste Reminder The new garden waste subscription year starts at the end of this month. The cost will be £49, and the service will now run all year round with no winter break.

Thank you to everyone for your patience while this new service gets underway. It’s great to see so many people getting involved so quickly. If you are experiencing any issues, please do report them so they can be resolved as quickly as possible.

As always, I’ll keep you updated.
