🔥🍃 | We are currently experiencing an increased volume of calls notifying us of planned controlled burns.

While we understand these fires can be used to manage land, there is also a risk that these fires get out of control, particularly when the land is still very dry from a summer of hot weather.

We would kindly ask that, if you are planning a controlled burn, you consider postponing it until a sustained change to cooler, wetter weather reduces the risk of wildfires.

Let’s work together to protect our beautiful county from the devastation seen around the UK and Europe.

You should also:

🍗 Avoid disposable barbecues and campfires
🚭 Put out ci******es completely and dispose carefully
🚯 Take all litter home with you, including glass bottles
🚗 Avoid parking on dry grass which exhausts can ignite

What a lovely weekend the crew had at Cockermouth show, great too see so many kids asking lots of questions about all our equipment on the fire engine, maybe even some future fire fighters there for the town 🚒

🔥🚒 We would like to welcome our 2 new crew members to Cockermouth.
Aaron Howitt & Will Alderson are currently undergoing their training ready for going on the run in September.
Monday night they joined in with our RTC exercise which is what they are training on this week, they have a couple more modules to complete this month including a 2 week BA course before completing an assessment and then will be ready to turn out to any incident we are required to attend🚒🔥

🚒 🔥 Last night Cockermouth Fire Station Keswick fire station Aspatria Fire Station Maryport Fire Station
Took part in an exercise at Armathwaite Hall. The situation we were faced with was a large complex basement fire with 4 persons unaccounted for.
A huge thank you to Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa staff for their hospitality and their involvement in our invaluable training 🔥 🚒

🚒 🔥 Last night we made full use of the training facilities at Workington Fire Station. A simulated House fire with 3 persons unaccounted for.
After a thorough search all casualties were found.

We had a very busy week with Fire station visits and community events last week.
Monday we had the kids from Mary Platt pre school visit
Thursday we attended Paddle schools Fete, unfortunately we only managed 45mins and we were turned out to an RTC, we just got back in to Cockermouth and we then got another call out so we sadly never made it back.
And Friday we had a great visit from some of the year 7 students from Cockermouth School

Commissioner David Allen visited Cockermouth Fire Station last night to meet the on-call crew and speak about their roles. They’re currently recruiting more on-call firefighters at Cockermouth. If you live locally and are interested in joining, pop along to the station on Station Road, CA13 9PR on Monday night at 6pm.
