The first Tuesday of every month means Commanding Officer’s Inspection for the cadets at 1740 (Clydebank) Squadron!

With the lighter evenings returning, it’s great to be back outside for parade. Our cadets have been putting in a lot of effort to get their uniforms up to a high standard—and it’s really starting to show.

They’ve also been sharpening their drill skills as they build towards competition later in the year. Keep up the hard work!

It’s been a busy and rewarding few months for the squadron, with many of our cadets achieving an impressive range of qualifications across first aid, radio communications, classifications, flying, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

A huge congratulations to all our cadets for their dedication, commitment, and effort — keep up the great work!

Last week, the squadron bid farewell to CI Connelly after an incredible 20 years of dedicated service with 1740 (Clydebank) Squadron.

As a former Wing Radio Officer, he led the squadron’s radio training and played a pivotal role in developing countless cadets’ skills and confidence over the years. His commitment and passion have left a lasting impact on everyone who has had the privilege to work with him.

On his final parade night, the Commanding Officer was delighted to present CI Connelly with an engraved quaich as a token of the squadron’s appreciation for his outstanding contribution. The IT and radio suite has also been renamed the “Connelly Suite” in recognition of his service—something we hope he’ll continue to take pride in for many years to come.

We’re delighted that CI Connelly plans to remain involved with the RAF Air Cadets as he moves to a squadron closer to his new home, and we know he will continue to inspire future generations.

All staff and cadets are extremely grateful for his outstanding service and wish him every success in his next chapter.

It’s been an incredibly busy and successful start to the year for the Squadron!

Over the past few months, our cadets have taken part in a wide variety of courses, developing new skills and earning an impressive range of qualifications.

Here’s just a selection of the awards that have been presented recently — a huge congratulations to everyone who has worked hard to achieve these qualifications.

We also had a fantastic camp last weekend, with a large number of cadets upgrading their badges. Keep an eye on our page for a full update and more photos coming soon!

The Squadron was proud to organise this year’s West Scotland Wing Royal Air Force Air Cadets ATC Sunday celebrations, marking the 85th anniversary of the formation of the Air Training Corps.

Cadets and staff from the Wing paraded through Clydebank, marching to Kilbowie St Andrews Parish Church to the fantastic sound of the Regional Pipes and Drums Band. We were honoured to be joined by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Joe Stanfield and Provost Karen Murray Conaghan for this special occasion.

This year’s event was especially poignant as it also coincides with the 85th anniversary of the Clydebank Blitz, commemorated by the memorial chapel within the church — a powerful reminder of the town’s resilience and sacrifice.

A huge thank you to Kilbowie St Andrews Parish Church who hosted us for this special occasion. It was a very enjoyable service, and the cadets and staff really appreciated the fantastic welcome and hospitality provided by the congregation.

Last weekend our cadets had a fantastic morning gliding at 661 Volunteer Gliding Squadron, RAF Kirknewton.

Cpl McLafferty, Cpl Cole, Cdt Toal and Cdt McMartin all got an opportunity to fly in the Viking glider for the first time earning their blue wings. They all had a fantastic time and are looking forward to flying again soon. Many thanks to all of the staff for making these opportunities possible.

This morning the Squadron was on parade in Clydebank for Remembrance Sunday. We are very proud of all our cadets who took part - an outstanding turn out for a very important event. The squadron paraded two flights, a banner party and a wreath party for the first time in many years.

Thank you to staff and cadets for turning out as well as parents and friends of the squadron for supporting us.

Lest we forget.

With our squadron continuing to grow, we’re thrilled to announce some well-deserved promotions within our NCO team!

FS Pate, our most senior cadet, has been promoted to Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) — the highest achievable rank for a cadet. This incredible milestone follows a rigorous interview process, and we couldn’t be prouder. Well done, CWO Pate! 👏

Sgt Cullen has been promoted to Flight Sergeant (FS), while Cpl Ahmad and Cpl Petty have both joined the Senior NCO team with promotions to Sergeant (Sgt). Congratulations to you all on your fantastic achievement and continued dedication!

A huge thank you and well done to every cadet for your hard work and commitment to the squadron. We’re incredibly proud of the effort you put in every week.

With this strong SNCO team leading the way, the future of the squadron looks bright.
