Hello,

I wanted to reach out again as the Local Policing Inspector for North East Derbyshire and Bolsover. Since my last update, we have successfully implemented the Safer Neighbourhood team uplift across the area that has brought an additional sergeant and additional police constables to the existing team.

There are 17 distinct beat areas across North East Derbyshire and Bolsover, and this uplift has allowed me to create three teams to create a better focus on tackling local issues whilst also being able to work as a collective when required. These are:

• Dronfield, Killamarsh & Clowne SNT under Sergeant Molloy
• Bolsover & Shirebrook SNT under Sergeant Whyte
• Clay Cross SNT under Sergeant Jones

The local priorities for all of the beat areas have just been updated which can all be reviewed at:

👉 North East - https://orlo.uk/52HOg

If you want to assist with how these are selected in the next cycle, review our work towards these priorities, or just want to give feedback around the area you live or work in, then please look to attend a local Community Catch up event or by completing the Community Voice survey at the below link:

👉 Community Voice – https://orlo.uk/lgbzT

Your feedback is invaluable and plays a key role in informing and renewing our neighbourhood policing priorities.

As we now enter the summer months, I will ensure your local officers are as visible and accessible as they can be in the community. The team as a whole has completed 750 local engagements in 2026 so far, and I want nothing less than the team being the most accessible and visible safer neighbourhood team in the county.

I hope you all have a great summer, and I look forward to feeding back some of the great proactive work we are completing currently in my next report to you.

| A man who failed to care for his dogs properly has been jailed.

Luke Overton’s prison sentence also includes custodial time for a separate dangerous driving offence.

Police were called by a member of the public concerned about the welfare of three dogs in a property in Bakestone Moor, Whitwell, on 5 November 2025. The caller said the dogs were left alone and no-one had been attending the property to look after them. They added that the smell coming from the property was so bad that they thought the dogs were dead.

Officers attended and found two French Bulldogs and a Weimaraner in the one bedroom flat. The dogs had no food or water and large pools of urine and excrement were all over the floors.

All three dogs were seized and a report from a vet stated the two French bulldogs were severely underweight and malnourished which had led to walking issues due to muscle loss. Both dogs had coats that were stained yellow from the urine and faeces.

The Weimaraner was slightly underweight but otherwise healthy.

Luke Overton was the only person who lived in the flat and he was subsequently arrested.

The 31-year-old told officers that he had been away for a few days visiting family and had arranged for a friend to look after the dogs. He claimed the friend had failed to do so and he wasn’t aware until several days later.

However the dogs were so emaciated that they had not been properly fed or looked after for some time.

Overton was subsequently charged with two counts of failing to ensure the needs of an animal were met. The dogs have since been rehomed.

While under investigation for the animal offences, Overton was also involved in another incident.

Officers on patrol in Chesterfield on 10 February saw a Vauxhall Insignia they believed was being used by a disqualified driver.

The driver failed to stop after the officers turned on their blue lights, driving around another police car which had been placed at a roundabout with a sign telling the driver to stop.

The Vauxhall then sped up, and during a pursuit which lasted 22 minutes, the car failed to stop at red lights, reached speeds of 120mph on the M1 and was involved in a very near miss with a lorry.

At some points during the pursuit, it was travelling along unlit roads with no lights on.

The pursuit ended when the Vauxhall crashed into a hedge.

Officers approached the vehicle and saw Overton climbing into the back seat trying to get out of the car.

Overton had been banned from driving following a previous dangerous driving offence in 2024 where he rammed two police cars.

He failed a roadside drug test and was arrested and subsequently charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, using a vehicle without insurance and possession of cannabis.

The 31-year-old, of Bakestone Moor, Whitwell, appeared at Derby Crown Court for sentencing on 17 April where he was jailed for a total of one year and seven months after admitting the offences.

He has been banned from driving for four years and until he has taken an extended test.

Overton has also been banned from keeping a dog for seven years.

🚔 Safer Neighbourhood Team Activity – Bolsover 🚔

Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood Teams of Bolsover, Creswell and Shirebrook have executed two Section 8 PACE warrants in the Bolsover area as part of ongoing efforts to tackle drug-related activity and protect our communities.

Our officers worked long hours to ensure these warrants were carried out effectively and safely.

During the activity, a quantity of suspected drugs was located at one of the addresses. A male was arrested, subsequently charged, and remanded to court. The individual had been wanted by police for the past three years and was also wanted by Immigration authorities.

This result highlights our continued commitment to pursuing offenders, no matter how long they have evaded justice, and taking positive action against those involved in criminality.

Op Sceptre is a national week of action focused on tackling knife crime, raising awareness, and working with communities to prevent serious violence. It brings together police and partner agencies to carry out proactive work, education, and enforcement activity.
Op Sceptre week has now come to an end, and it has been a very productive and engaging week working across our communities.
During the week, we have worked alongside partner agencies, have been out delivering a range of activities aimed at prevention, education, and keeping our communities safe:
✅ The Arc, Clowne – We spent time engaging with members of the public, offering crime prevention advice and raising awareness around the dangers and consequences of carrying knives. It was great to speak with residents and young people, answer questions, and encourage positive choices.
✅ Barlborough Knife Sweep – In partnership with a Bolsover District Council Ranger, we carried out a knife sweep of key locations. These proactive searches help remove weapons from public spaces and form an important part of preventing potential harm.
✅ Whitwell Knife Amnesty Event – We supported a knife amnesty, providing a safe and anonymous way for people to dispose of knives. Initiatives like this are vital in reducing the number of weapons in circulation and keeping our communities safer.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us, engage positively, and support this important work. Preventing knife crime is a shared responsibility, and it’s encouraging to see the community coming together.

We will continue this work beyond Op Sceptre and remain committed to protecting and supporting our communities.

🚔 Creswell SNT – Speed Enforcement Update 🚔

Yesterday afternoon (22nd May 2026), officers from Creswell, Bolsover and Shirebrook Safer Neighbourhood Teams conducted patrols within Creswell, including speed enforcement using a handheld speed detection device.
Checks carried out included Duchess Street and Sheffield Road, Creswell following concerns raised by members of the community regarding vehicle speeds.

We will continue to act on information provided by residents and carry out enforcement where necessary to improve road safety.

⚠️ Safety Message:
Speeding significantly increases the risk of serious injury or fatal collisions, particularly in residential areas where pedestrians, children and cyclists are present. Please ensure you:
Adhere to posted speed limits
Drive appropriately for the road and weather conditions
Remain alert, especially in built-up areas

Keeping our communities safe is a shared responsibility—please do your part.

If you have concerns about speeding in your area, report it to us or through appropriate channels
