New Footpath Connection
We're delighted to announce that a planning submission has been lodged with Ribble Valley Borough Council for the brand new footpath connecting Primrose Nature Reserve directly to Clitheroe town centre — entirely traffic-free.
Made possible by a grant from Ribble Valley Borough Council, the new route will run from Greenacre Street via Woone Lane back street, along the boundary of St James' School, and into the reserve at the flat bridge. Whether you're a dog walker, a family, or just someone who fancies a green stroll into town, this path is for you.
A huge thank you to St James' CE Primary School — whose support made the whole route possible — and to Beck Development for allowing part of the path to cross their land. The school will also gain direct reserve access for Forest School sessions and environmental education.
As our Chair of the Trustees Richard Stephenson put it: "Primrose Nature Reserve belongs to this community, and this path is about making sure as many people as possible can enjoy it.”

Thank you again to our wonderful volunteers who enthusiastically tackled all sorts of jobs in our last session including:
Strimming of path edges, bramble removal, budlea removal, clearing of weeds from path edges, litter picking and the felling of four medium sized Willows across the stream to form Leaky Dams which will slow the flow and collect some silt behind in time.

Our next volunteer session is on Wednesday 13th May at 10am - 12.30pm. You can book your place here https://www.primrosecommunitynaturetrust.org/post/primrose-lodge-community-nature-trust-volunteer-days

Spot the butterfly!

It's often the first butterfly to be seen in Spring (March - May), its known for its large eye-spots designed to startle predators.

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who joined us at Primrose Lodge in Clitheroe to help with some much-needed site maintenance this weekend! 👏

Together, we tackled the vegetation that was starting to creep onto the footpaths, helping to keep the site safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone who visits.

Back in 2020, we converted this site from an abandoned and overgrown industrial site to a thriving nature reserve full of wildlife. Our ongoing maintenance is delivered in partnership with Primrose Nature Reserve and volunteers play a massive part in keeping the site healthy and beautiful. 💚

Mearley Brook originates on the scenic Pendle Hill and passes through Clitheroe, joining Pendleton Brook then the main Ribble.

At just 4.5 miles long, this watercourse is only small, but it's a vital part of the local landscape. It's also been heavily modified over the years.

Our latest project aims to re-naturalise Mearley Brook through a series of innovative, nature-based interventions designed to work harmoniously with the river’s natural processes, and it's already working wonders.

Thank you to TM Lindsay Ltd for putting in some serious graft and helping our vision to become a reality! 🩵
