Thereβs a huge amount of misrepresentation of what the Green Party stand for. One of the issues being caricatured and slammed is the party policy on drugs. Please read this to get an informed picture of what we really stand for. Iβve taken this from Zack Polanskiβs own words, and added a little too.
The βwar on drugsβ isnβt working, and never has. Tragically, the UK has the highest rate of drug deaths in Europe: and what the Green Party stands for is the regulating and controlling of drugs, taking them out of the hands of criminal gangs, off street corners and out of dark alleys, and instead taking a public health approach, making it about harm reduction.
Drug quality could be ensured, to stop the hugely dangerous and sometimes deadly adulteration by dealers and criminals; and addictive drugs could be monitored by the NHS, and people offered support to be helped off and stay off dangerous drugs.
As you can see, this couldnβt be further from the baseless accusations of βplaygrounds as crack densβ and so on. I believe the Green Party is following the science, and genuinely trying to address the current and historic problems in a way that so many have advocated for in the past, but have been squashed before they had the opportunity to look at the positive possibilities of following another way.
