We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Bradley and Amelia have successfully passed their Tier 2 assessment on Wednesday, 8th September, marking a significant milestone in their RNLI journey!

Becoming a Tier 2 Crew is a massive achievement that requires an enormous amount of hard work, dedication, and perseverance as volunteers. This accomplishment is a testament to their unwavering commitment to saving lives at sea and making a difference in their community.

We are incredibly proud of their outstanding achievement and look forward to seeing their continued growth and success within the RNLI.

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. This is unacceptable.

The RNLI’s people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they’ve never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.

We launched 9,058 times in 2025. Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel – 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.

To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.

This morning at 03.35 hours, Clacton-on-sea’s all weather lifeboat was tasked to a 36 foot fin sailing vessel that had run aground on the NE end of Long Sand, approximately 18 miles east of Clacton-on-Sea. Upon arrival the lifeboat discovered 4 persons on board.
The crew off the lifeboat made contact with vessel and was informed by the skipper That the vessel was taking on water. The situation changed very quickly and the lifeboat crew were made aware that the vessel was sinking rapidly.
The coxswain of the lifeboat made the first attempt to come alongside the vessel and remove 2 crew before another attempt to recover a 3rd crew member.
A fourth attempt was then made to recover the skipper of the vessel which was now almost submerged. With all 4 crew members onboard the lifeboat, casualty care was administered which thankfully involved hot drinks and food.
Unfortunately the vessel could not be saved and the lifeboat returned to the lifeboat station and handed over the 4 crew members to UK coastguard.

Lifeboat operations manager Carlo Bardetti said “ the coxswain with the support of his crew did an exceptional job in saving 4 lives, thanks to the lifeboat crew, four men will be going home to their families”, it is times like this when the training shows to be paying off, I am extremely proud of all the crew and they should be too”.

This tasking was completed by an all Clacton on Sea lifeboat crew which is a fantastic achievement made possible by the training delivered by Fleet Team from RNLI HQ in Poole.

August was a busy month for both of our lifeboats.
Over 10 taskings for both lifeboats, working with other agencies including Essex Police, East of England Ambulance Service, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and UK coastguard.
Different types of incidents for our volunteers to deal with, ranging from incidents around Clacton Pier to sailing vessels in difficulty beyond the wind farms.
Some of the incidents have taken over 6 hours to resolve.
Our crews will be on station training this Sunday morning, the lifesaving shop will also be open, why not pop down, say ‘hello” to our crew and look what gifts are available in the shop.
The weather looks great and there are plenty of cafes along our seafront.
The next planned launch for our Shannon class lifeboat is Tuesday morning around 9am and Wednesday evening for our D class around 7pm.

All the crew would like to say a huge “thank you” to all our visitors over the 2 days of the airshow.
An amazing total of over £1100.00 was raised to help us save lives at sea.
Our volunteer crew were tasked to several incidents over the whole bank holiday weekend, one evening the lifeboat didn’t return to station until 4am.
Thank you to everyone from crew to shop staff and fundraisers.
We can’t do it without you.

Air show Day 1

What a fantastic day it's been so far! We've had an action-packed morning with the All-Weather Lifeboat and D-Class Lifeboat launch, showcasing their incredible rescue capabilities. And we've been treated to some truly fantastic flight displays that have left us all in awe!

The pilots' skills and the aircraft's agility have been on full display, and we can't get enough of it! We also had lost of fantastic food up for grabs.

Why not pop down to Day 2 for some more amazing views, thrilling stunts, and a chance to get up close and personal with the planes and their pilots? You won't want to miss it!

This exercise will ensure our Shannon Class All Weather Lifeboat remains operational during the Air Show, accommodating the anticipated large crowds. We invite you to attend and witness the launch.
