Instagram: The Countryside Alliance is known for its lobbying and campaigning work on wildlife and management, but its agenda is far broader than that, incorporating food & farming, local businesses and services, and the injustices of poor mobile phone signal and broadband in the countryside. The Countryside Alliance was formed in 1997 when the British Fie

ld Sports Society, the Countryside Movement and the Countryside Business Group the Alliance amalgamated. We are known for having arranged several pro-countryside marches and rallies including the Hyde Park Rally on 10 July 1997, the Countryside March on 1 March 1998 (360,000 people) and the Liberty & Livelihood March on 22 September 2002 (407,791 people). These demonstrations were held to support fieldsports in response to a newly elected Labour Government that was hostile. The wrangling over fieldsports continued for many years resulting in the failed and discredited Hunting Act 2004. We work tirelessly to promote and protect hunting and shooting interests, and our work for fishing includes Countryside Alliance Foundation projects; Fishing for Schools and Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland. Although country sports remain on the frontline of our campaigns, we are anything but single issue. Our campaigns on broadband, mobile phone signal, fly tipping, affordable housing, food & farming and rural business (through the Countryside Alliance Awards) show that we represent the interests of those who love the British countryside, regardless of who or where they are. With around 100,000 members and supporters, the Countryside Alliance promotes and protects rural life at Parliament, in the media and on the ground. Join us at www.countryside-alliance.org

Do you think councils should be banning meat and dairy?

Enfield Council is "Beefing back up Enfield", backing British livestock farmers, and reversing the ridiculous meat ban previously brought in.

It's time for the government to end its toxic culture war on the countryside. Start legislating for rural people, not against them.

“Stop the culture war against the countryside!”

Keir Starmer promised respect before the election, but since taking office we have seen the family farm tax, taxes on rural businesses and banning trail hunting and game shooting being top priorities.

Andy Burnham winning in Makerfield means a Labour leadership challenge is now highly likely. What would that mean for the countryside? Will he drop the toxic culture war? joined moments after Mr Burnham’s victory speech, to give his reaction.

Rural people desperately want the government to start legislating for them, not against them. What happens next?

Time will only tell…

🗞️A ban on trail hunting is “irrelevant to meeting the many pressing needs of the countryside” wrote The Times recently.

People can see through this ban. It’s a distraction.

The government should focus on delivering for rural communities, not legislating against them.

⏱️Oppose the ban: you have until 23:59 TONIGHT! Every last entry matters. We’ve had a surge in numbers today.

Thank you 🙏

Last night, we stood outside DEFRA's offices with one simple message: Listen.

Listen to the people who care deeply about trail hunting and everything that surrounds it. Listen to the communities that have built their lives around it. Listen to the families, jobs, traditions and livelihoods that depend on it.

This wasn't about anger or division. It was about making sure the voices of those directly affected are seen and heard. It was about reminding decision-makers that behind every policy discussion are real people, real communities and real lives.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night and to everyone who continues to speak up. Together, we will keep making our voices heard.

"When one examines the rhetoric used by anti-hunting groups... it becomes clear that their motivation is not animal welfare, it is a hatred of people, it is the politics of envy."

Strong message from the CA's Roger Seddon in this morning's Yorkshire Post.

When a village loses its shop, it can lose far more than a place to buy essentials.

Fifteen years ago, ESCO was created to ensure that didn't happen in Presteigne. Built through determination, hard work and an extraordinary commitment to local people, it has become a true community lifeline, supporting customers day in, day out and going the extra mile for those who need it most.

A worthy winner of the Village Shop & Post Office category at the Countryside Alliance Awards 2026 for Wales.

🏆 Congratulations to Sharon and everyone at ESCO.
