A Piece of History Restored 🏛️🌿

We’re delighted to see further work completed in Rectory Wood, helping to bring the old Pump House back to some of its former glory.

During the excavation works around Yew Tree Pool earlier this year, a significant amount of stone was uncovered. It is thought that much of this stone may have originally come from the construction of the Pump House (earlier used as a gothic folly) . Rather than allowing this historic material to be lost, it was carefully collected and has now been reinstated by a stonemason, repairing sections of the building and helping to preserve it for future generations.

At the same time, our Outdoor Maintenance Team, supported by local volunteers, have done a fantastic job clearing vegetation and debris from around the site. Their hard work has revealed the original stone floor and made the area cleaner, more accessible and much easier for visitors to appreciate.

The Pump House is thought to date from the late 17th century making it a fascinating piece of Rectory Wood’s history as it formed part of Processor John Mainwaring’s gardens.

We’re incredibly grateful to the contractors, our Outdoor Maintenance Team and all the volunteers who have contributed to this work. It’s wonderful to see local skills and community effort coming together to care for our heritage.

So, next time you’re walking through Rectory Wood, take a moment to stop and have a look. We hope this little piece of history will now be enjoyed by walkers, hikers and visitors to the wood for many years to come. 🌳

📢 Community Police Surgeries and Crime Prevention Events this September

1️⃣ What do we want the public to know?
Your local Church Stretton and Craven Arms Safer Neighbourhood Team will be out in the community throughout September, offering opportunities for residents to speak with us, raise concerns, seek crime prevention advice, and find out more about local policing priorities.

📍 Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre – 7 September, 1:00pm
📍 Church Stretton Police Station – 11 September, 1:00pm
📍 Church Stretton Wellbeing Centre – 15 September, 11:30am
📍 Church Stretton Library – 17 September, 1:30pm
📍 Craven Arms Halo Centre – 25 September, 12:00pm

We will also continue our regular visits to the Church Stretton Co-op and Craven Arms Tuffins supermarket and hope to join the mobile library at selected stops across the area.

These engagements support our local priority of strengthening community relationships, listening to residents, and providing crime prevention advice to help keep our communities safe.

2️⃣ How do we want the public to feel?
We want local people to feel reassured that their neighbourhood policing team is visible, accessible, and committed to addressing community concerns. Your views help shape our local policing activity.

3️⃣ What do we want the public to do?
If you have any non-urgent issues, concerns, or questions, please come along and speak with us. You can also contact us via [email protected].

Last few days to take part in the Stretton’s Survey….

📢 Your Town. Your Voice. Our Future.

We’ve launched our first-ever Stretton’s Survey – and we’d love to hear from you!

If you’re a Church Stretton, All Stretton, Little Stretton or Minton resident or even a local business, please take 5–10 minutes to tell us what matters most to you. Your feedback will help shape the Town Council’s priorities and next year’s budget, ensuring we focus our resources where they’ll have the biggest impact.

This will become an annual survey, so this is your first opportunity to help influence future spending and improvements in our community.

Together, help us help the community!

📝 Please complete the survey and make your voice count!
