Dry, warm weather means a higher risk of wildfires.

Please take extra care outdoors by avoiding open flames, disposing of ci******es responsibly and never leaving barbecues unattended.

One small spark can have devastating consequences.

Please give this a read. With the risk of wild fires still high the ‘snow’ gates will continue to be closed.

Please give this a read. With the risk of wild fires still high the ‘snow’ gates will continue to be closed.

Please be aware that the ‘snow’ gates are still closed and we are still limiting vehicle access across the Long Mynd until further notice. The fire risk is still very high and this measure is to protect livestock, livelihoods, wildlife and the local community.

We apologies for the inconvenience but this will hopefully only be for a temporary period of time.

Please help to prevent wildfires by following these tips if you are visiting the countryside.
1) Call 999 immediately if you see any signs of fire.
2) Leave the BBQ at home and don’t light campfires or gas stoves. They’re not permitted in open countryside across the Shropshire Hills.
3) Don’t smoke on the hills.
4) Take all your rubbish home with you.
5) Camping and over night stays are not allowed on the Long Mynd
5) Spread the word not a fire. Share this with anyone you know who is heading out to the countryside and encourage them to leave anything that creates a spark or flames at home.

Please do everything you can to protect people and wildlife in these hot and dry conditions.

Was my final drill night last night down the station before officially retiring.

So I decided to turn up to duty in my old original fire kit from when I first joined back in 1984
Back then when I joined this is what firefighters wore turning out to all incidents, yellow plastic leggings, wool tunic and a cork helmet that we had to paint ourselves.

I wish Church Stretton Fire Station and personnel along with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service all the very best for the future.

Thank you

Just to say many thanks to the Church Stretton Town Council for the use of the house next to the Silvester Horne Institute where the Church Stretton Fire Firefighters used it to carry out an exercise simulating a domestic house Fire where we filled it with smoke and put some casualties inside for our firefighters to rescue.
Having the use of a property like this gives us the opportunity to practice for anything real which might be thrown at us, so many thanks again from the Church Stretton Fire Station.

Just a note to be careful putting your fire ash into the recycling bins. Please make sure it's completely cooled down if doing so. Had an incident this evening where the bins caught fire due to the hot ash where the bins were against the house which then the fire affected part of the property as well
