24 Commando Royal Engineers

24 Commando Royal Engineers This is the official page for 24 Commando Royal Engineers, a regiment of the British Army.

24 Commando Engineer Regiment supports 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines. Expeditionary in nature, this elite fighting force is optimised as an Amphibious formation, with the unique ability to rapidly deploy around the World and project force without reliance on ports or airfields. Based in Chivenor, North Devon, 24 Commando Engineer Regiment conducts operations across the spectrum of conflict in s

upport of 3 Commando Brigade, meaning that each member must be trained in amphibious warfare, as well as knowing how to operate in the jungle, across deserts, over mountainous terrain and in arctic conditions. The Regiment has an establishment of 361 Officers and Soldiers and comprises: Regimental HQ, 54 and 59 Commando Squadrons, REME Workshop and Regimental Echelon. The coveted Green Beret, the distinctive hallmark of Commando trained troops, is worn by the Regiment, recognising those who have completed the grueling and physically demanding tests of endurance, whilst displaying the Commando spirit. All individuals who volunteer to join the Regiment will have the opportunity to complete the 9 week All Arms Commando Course, after receiving coaching to develop their strength and endurance. Progressive in nature, this pre-course conditioning package focuses upon developing the individual to undertake the arduous activities of the Commando course. The 'train-in' not 'select-out' ethos of the course, provides volunteers with the best chance of success.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

An Access Troop from @54 Cdo Sqn, consisting of Combat Engineers and Plant Operators have built the first overseas Non Equipment Bridge (NEB) by 24 Cdo RE soldiers in many years.

The degradation of an existing ~40 year old bridge had restricted access to the Belizean Defence Force (BDF) for riverine training along the Belize River. It had also denied a crossing point to the local community.

54 Cdo Sqn took the opportunity to conduct expeditionary combat engineer training by designing, resourcing and constructing an NEB that will stand the test of time and bring benefit to both the BDF and local community.
A superb example of Combat Engineering that enhanced the knowledge, skills and experience of JNCOs and Sappers in the Sqn.

An Access Troop from 54 Commando Squadron has been demonstrating its ability to set the conditions for 3X and Follow-on Forces (FoF) through Theatre Setting activities on Ex AUSTERE WOLF. A small, agile but well-resourced team has opened a Sea Port of Disembarkation (SPOD) for the Theatre Entry Group (TEG) to enable FoF to gain permanent access to the Beachhead within the Akrotiri Mole, Cyprus. The team contained a wide spectrum of military engineering (MILENG) capability and has focussed on the interoperability between ME divers, Plant Operators and Combat Engineers.

Working within the Akrotiri Mole, 54 Cdo Sqn have been clearing sub-surface and surface obstacles to establish a safe lane. The ability to clear and establish viable safe routes within the littoral environment for both 3X and the TEG is an essential element of amphibious operations and 24 Cdo RE contains the crucial equipment and skillset to conduct these activities.
