Charlbury Annual Town Meeting – Wednesday 29 April

Everyone is very welcome to come along to this year’s Annual Town Meeting on Wednesday 29 April, 7–9pm at the Memorial Hall.

This year’s theme is Nature, Access and Community, with a short update from the Town Council, a guest speaker from Cotswolds National Landscape, and the presentation of the Honoured Citizen Awards.

There will also be displays from local nature groups, so it’s a good chance to find out more about what’s happening locally and how to get involved.

We’ll have wine, cheese and time to chat, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions of the Town Council, County and District Councillors.

Whether you want to stay for the whole meeting or just drop in, it would be great to see you there.

Tree works at Ticknell Piece playground

You may have noticed that a cherry tree next to the playground at Ticknell Piece has recently been felled.

This followed advice from Oxfordshire County Council’s Tree Service, who assessed the tree and found it to be in poor structural condition, with a split between its stems. Given how close it was to the playground, the recommendation was that it should be removed promptly for safety reasons.

As the site is within a conservation area, the Town Council submitted the required 5-day notice to West Oxfordshire District Council before the work was carried out.

Where possible, the timber has been left on site to provide habitat for wildlife.

At its meeting this week, the Town Council also discussed planting a replacement tree in due course.

Town Council Vacancy

Ed Bradbury has recently resigned from Charlbury Town Council. We would like to thank Ed for his time and much valued contribution to the council during his time with us.

This means we now have a vacancy for a Town Councillor.

The role involves attending monthly meetings and keeping up to date with local matters, with plenty of scope to focus on areas that interest you.

If you’re interested, or would simply like to find out more about what’s involved, please contact Lisa at [email protected] or 07311 259412. Alternatively, have a chat with one of the councillors to find out what is involved.
