2491 (Lyneham) Air Cadets Welcome to 2491 (Lyneham) Squadron RAF Air Cadet's page based in Lyneham, Wiltshire. This is the home of 2491 (Lyneham) Squadron ATC.

We welcome new Cadets from aged 12 in Year 8 - aged 17 from Lyneham, Royal Wootton Bassett and surrounding villages. If you are interested in finding out more please message or email us for more details!

*** 🚣‍♂️🧗🏻🪓 PGL Liddington Camp 🪓🧗🏻🚣‍♂️ ***

Recently, cadets (and staff!) had the opportunity to put the “Adventure” into our motto of “Venture Adventure” at PGL in Liddington, near Swindon. There, our personnel were able to take part in all sorts of activities - ranging from climbing and ziplining to Laser Tag and Archery Tag…and even a bit of Axe Throwing and Canoeing in between!

We would like to extend our thanks both to the PGL team (and especially Charlotte, who looked after us for the weekend!) and to the Lyneham Parish Council, who kindly gave us a local grant to allow us to take on such a phenomenal weekend and gain even more team-building skills and memories out of it.

***💪👏🤩 PROMOTION TIME🤩👏💪***

So, while we were putting the finishing touches on the prep for our PGL weekend, and getting out and about with some sports, one member of our Sqn has finished the evening looking quite different to when they started!

Following a board with OC DWW and WO DWW, Wg Cdr Church and WO Green, we would like to proudly congratulate Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) Dee-Cutler on his new promotion!

He will remain heading up our NCO team on Sqn, as we move into winter and look to welcome a new intake in the upcoming weeks! Well done once again CWO Dee-Cutler, a truly fantastic achievement indeed! 👏

*** National Air and Space Camp (NASC) Catch-Up - Cpl Green and Sgt Lennie ***

Some of our cadets (and staff!) spent the recent two week stand-down on an adventure to RAF Syerston, to attend this year’s National Air and Space Camp (NASC) run by 2 Flying Training School! Cdt Manvell, Cpls Green and Nunes, and Sgts Cox, Lennie and Stewart all went to attend one of this summer’s biggest camps, visiting sites like RAF Waddington, RAF Wittering, ASI - Newark and even the National Space Centre in Leicester!

Sgt Lennie, who also serves as the Wing Media and Communications Officer, had a catch-up with Cpl Green the other evening about his experience on NASC - a shout out as well to our friends from Escadrilles Air Jeunesse, our French cohort this year! Camps like this truly show how national (and international!!) our opportunities can be!

We may be busy on camps or making the most of our time off currently, but that doesn’t mean we’re not still celebrating our achievements! Over the last few weeks, we’ve managed to achieve the following:

The awards won’t stop coming though, as we achieve more on National Air and Space Camp this week - and we celebrate some Gold Leadership excellence soon as well! Fantastic work to everyone, we can’t wait to see how you use your skills moving forwards on the Sqn! 💪

*** 🔥🧯👨‍🚒 Ex-RAF Firefighter Visit - 30 Jul 2026👨‍🚒🧯🔥 ***

Two weeks ago, we had the fantastic opportunity to engage in a talk from former RAF Firefighter, Toni Bloomfield!

Toni came in to give our cadets a talk about his past career in the Royal Air Force, including the types of aircraft he worked with on various stations, before letting them try on some of the kit he would be using for his day job!

Thank you to Toni for coming down and chatting with our Sqn, and to Cpl Pocock for organising this talk!

***🗻🥾✈️ THURSDAY TEAMS - MOUNT EVEREST PRESENTATION + WAD PREP ✈️🥾🗻 ***

We may have been shut last Monday for a Staff and Cadet NCO meeting, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t busy as usual on the Thursdays before and after! 💪

Thursday 9th July saw our cadets sitting in on a presentation from Fg Off Maxted about his epic adventure to Mount Everest earlier this year, and what this taught him on resilience, teamwork, and determination! These lessons were then put into practice with some Leadership exercises put on by Sgt Stewart and Flt Sgt Dee-Cutler, to start pulling together our teams ready for Wing Activities Day! 🗻🤝

Thursday 16th July saw our next WAD Trials, in the form of an Air Recce quiz hosted by our resident aviation expert, Flt Sgt Dee-Cutler! Some great knowledge of aircraft was displayed by our cadets - our teams are slowly coming together…watch this space! ✈️👓
