National Trust Lacock Abbey, country house and village, 800 years in the making and the Home of Photography We welcome feedback – both positive and negative.
(372)

Set in rural Wiltshire, Lacock village is famous for its picturesque streets, historic buildings and more recently as a film and television location. Now is your chance to follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter, Elizabeth Bennet and the residents of Cranford. The Abbey, located at the heart of the village within its own woodland grounds, is a quirky country house of various architectural styles,

built upon the foundations of a former nunnery. Experience the atmosphoric medieval rooms and cloister court, giving a sense of the abbey's monastic past. In the museum learn about the achievements of fascinating former Lacock resident, William Henry Fox Talbot, famous for his contributions to the invention of photography.

It may feel a bit more autumnal, but we haven't put away the deckchairs yet.

Last call for Summer of Play which has its last day in the Parkland on Sunday 6 September.

Make a stained 'glass' picture in the craft tent every day this week until 3.30pm for those not yet back in school, with the Wiltshire Scrapstore returning at the weekend (10.30am - 3.00pm).

The end of the summer and gardeners are looking ahead to the harvest. Any prize-winning potatoes in your patch?

Last year Martin Parr visited the Lacock Flower Show in September and documented the wins of the day. He was gifted in finding the unexpected in the detail, look closely at the plate - can you guess why the potato feels a little unseasonal on closer inspection?

Lacock by Martin Parr is exhibiting in the upper gallery of the Fox Talbot Museum.

Have you tried one of the Snap Packs yet? In the Servant's Hall choose from two different themed backpacks designed to help you explore colour, light and framing techniques in photography.

You can take your pack on walk around the abbey and they're suitable for children and adults alike. Just pop them back in the box in the Great Hall when you're done, for the next photo explorer to try.

Seeing as we've all been enjoying solar eclipse photography recently we thought we'd let you know about the other Object of the Month in the South Gallery.

A beautiful album of space photography, dated 1892 - 1910, with images taken from observatories around the world.

See it in the display case by the latticed window - famed for being the first image captured on a photographic negative - until September.
