Today we say a sad farewell to PCSO Barbara Young from her long-standing role within our town's Neighbourhood Policing Team. 👋🏼

There are few people in our community who, over the years, have not shared a conversation with Barbara. Whether on patrol, at community events, or simply walking the streets, Barbara has been a familiar and reassuring presence to residents and visitors alike.

Since 2004, she has been the one consistent member of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, demonstrating a level of dedication that is both rare and deeply valued. In that time, she has walked thousands of miles across our town, engaging with the community and providing that vital link between the public and the police.

Barbara’s policing journey began in 1998 when she joined Wiltshire Police as a Traffic Warden in Malmesbury. Her commitment and passion for community service led her to take the next step in her career, and in 2004 she arrived in our town having been successfully appointed as a Police Community Support Officer. From the outset, Barbara made the role her own, embedding herself firmly within the fabric of the local community.

Over the years, Barbara has truly become the “eyes and ears” of the community. Her approachable manner, local knowledge, and unwavering commitment have enabled her to build trusted relationships with residents, businesses, and partner agencies. She has played a key role in addressing local concerns, supporting vulnerable individuals, and contributing to the overall safety and wellbeing of the town.

Barbara has now made the difficult decision to retire from her PCSO role, allowing her to spend more well-deserved time with her family. While she will be greatly missed in her current capacity, we are pleased that she will continue her service with Wiltshire Police on reduced hours, having taken up the role of Enquiry Officer at Melksham Police Station.

Please join us in saying a big thank you to Barbara for her many years of dedicated service, and in wishing her every success and happiness in this next chapter. Her contributions to policing and to our community will leave a lasting legacy, and she departs with our deepest appreciation.

We are appealing for information following a collision in Chippenham in which a cyclist sustained serious injuries.

At approximately 3.30pm on May 8, a man in his 30s was cycling down Hungerdown Lane towards Lidl.

A white van stopped prior to the junction on Allington Way, when another vehicle, believed to be a small grey hatchback, turned right into Allington Way, colliding with the cyclist.

The driver of the grey vehicle, believed to be a young woman, did not report the incident to police nor did she provide her details.

The cyclist sustained GBH level injuries as a result of the collision.

We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident - it is believed there was heavy traffic in the area at the time so it is likely there are witnesses.
