Child Okeford residents only, we need your input!

Extension of the 20mph limit

Child Okeford Parish Council and Cllr Sherry Jespersen have applied to Dorset Council to extend the 20mph speed limit in the village from the High Street, down Station Road and down Haywards Lane to beyond the school.

Dorset Council have now asked for evidence of substantial community support for the proposed scheme, so we need your views.

In line with King Charles's request to mark his Coronation with a Big Help Out, we are having a village litter pick on Monday morning at 10.30 from the Cross, pickers and bags will be provided.
There is then a Village Picnic from 11.30 on the Recreational Field with teas, coffees and cakes provided by our wonderful WI. Bring your picnics, bring your blankets, chairs and yourselves to enjoy a lovely community afternoon on the field.

We need your help, we have big plans for our Community Centre but currently, we have a very small team who need some new vision, new energy and general help.
If you are passionate about our Community and want to make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.
We need a Bookings Secretary (although this is now online and automated, which should make it easier), a Publicity Officer,
Facilities Officer, Fundraising Officer & people who would just like to make the Community Centre a better facility for our Community,
We hope by working alongside CORGI to revitalise and modernise the Community Centre. After a fantastic start, we raised a large sum of money to kick-start our plans for the Centre, however, COVID stopped any further fundraising and we now need some new energy to get us going again.

Queen Elizabeth II -1926 – 2022

As we learn of the sad news that HM The Queen has passed away, our thoughts are with the Royal Family as they grieve for a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

HM The Queen demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment to duty to our country and the Commonwealth. Our sadness at this time is shared by people across the globe as we remember her with affection and gratitude.

The Lady Chapel in St Nicholas Church is open for private reflection and prayers.

There is not a book of Condolence in the Chapel but there are books of Condolence available during opening hours at County Hall, Dorchester and in all Dorset libraries. An online Book of Condolences is also available on the Royal website for those who wish to send a personal message of condolence. Please follow the link www.royal.uk

A space on the War Memorial is available for the placing of floral and other suitable tributes by members of the public. The tributes will remain there until the day following the funeral. We respectfully request that no cellophane or naked flames are placed on the site.

The Parish Council of Child Okeford and the Child Okeford PCC will be writing to Buckingham Palace on behalf of Child Okeford to express the village’s condolences at this sad time.
